Does anyone know if students admitted through Freshman Connection are eligible for merit aid, either for Fall semester or thereafter when admitted to the regular program?
How can I find out if I got in to the Honors or Scholars program?? Been trying to figure that out since last night…
@acs116 Your admissions decision letter includes whether or not you got into the Honors, Scholars, or FIRE programs.
@sml1234 where in the letter? Cause the letter says “you will be joining a community of scholars and leaders”. Does that mean I got in or is that just part of the letter?
@acs116 No that’s just part of the letter. It should say something like “I am pleased to offer you admission to the University of Maryland (UMD) and Honors College for the Fall 2017 semester.” If it doesn’t say anything about Honors, Scholars, or FIRE, you just got into regular Fall admission.
Is the GroupMe / Facebook group for accepted students made yet? If so I’d like to join
@mer2017 mine was completed on time too. I’m assuming it is in waves because I know other people who havent heard too
Does anyone know about the transition when it comes to the FC program? If I did that would I be able to get into the bioengineering program when the spring semester starts?
@college11010 thank you!
@sml1234 yes, there’s a couple groupmes going on there, the name on FB is “University of Maryland Class of 2021 (Official Group)”.
are people admitted in the spring semester still eligible for merit scholarships? especially since I am doing freshman connections?
What’s the difference between freshman connection and fall admission? Like how do the classes differ?
@Mike1999 pretty sure it’s just gen ed classes after 3 pm with smaller classes
For those asking about Freshmen connection: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1856565-info-for-those-offered-spring-admit.html/
Freshman connection allows you to take classes in the fall/live on campus until you enroll in the spring. Fall admission begins in august 2017. I’m not quite sure about scholarships though
My brother just finished his Freshman Connection semester (Fall 2016). The classes you take are slightly different, but you get extra guidance and there is absolutely no stigma attached to being in the program. You have classes later in the day also, but besides that nothing is really different. You don’t live in Freshman Connection only dorms, so you’re fully ingrained into Maryland life. Freshman Connection only is for your first semester, and then after that you are just a regular student who does all the other regular class times
I think my major concern with it was wondering how I could get into my major afterward since it’s limited
My son got in for Spring 2018 so if he decides to go to UMD, he would start via Freshman Connection. My question is this - since he didn’t get in “regular admission”, is it safe to assume he will get no scholarships and no financial aid??? Seems like that would be given or reserved for regular admit students, and they are throwing us a bone by letting him in at all.
The guidance counselors in the Freshman Connection office are super helpful. They answer all your questions and make the transition really easy. FC is great. My son got into a LEP after FC.
@njdad70 financial aid is guaranteed so long as you qualify/fill out the FAFSA, i’m not quite sure about scholarships
I’m sure the counsellors are good for FC, but without some type of aid, my son can’t afford to go to UMD. Is there an example of anyone who got in through FC that got a scholarship or need based aid?
