@njdad70 i know of no examples (@SoofDad and @maryversity might though) but the FAQ freshman connection page says that you may use any federal aid that is awarded to you https://oes.umd.edu/freshmen-connection/faq
I wonder if anyone received just a blank decision without applying directly to a certain program. Could that be why we haven’t heard anything?
My son has not heard anything. We received confirmation that the application was received on 10/9. We checked everything before the 11/1 date to make certain nothing was missed. 3 of his friends have heard. I went to the admissions website and sent an email as per instruction. Any ideas?
@bosmom17 I think it will come out today or tomorrow.
Does anyone know if the scholars programs requires students to do more work or take more classes than non-scholars/honors? Or are the classes they take simply substitutes for required electives or CORE requirements so that they wash out? Just trying to determine the load on S who will also be in engineering. Thanks
Does anyone know if it is possible to be both in Smith and also the Honors College??
Also, can you appeal to the Honors College?
@kzswim Smith is a school within UMD, while Honors College is a program. Students can do both.
@bosmom17 Same - OOS.
Accepted with FIRE
OOS
28 ACT
3.947 UW GPA
Congratulations to everyone accepted.
My D was admitted yesterday just before 5pm, on her portal. She’s in-state. applied mid October, admitted to Scholars program. I didn’t think she’d make it into the Honors program. Still, we’re hoping for some scholarship money. Don’t know if that’s realistic.
I’ve read a few questions about scholarship awards to spring starts - pretty sure the website says scholarships are not awarded to students who start in the spring semester. Not sure if that also applies to the FC program.
Thanks WindowMomto2. I was afraid of that re: scholarships to Freshman Connection students. My guess is they will get screwed on need based aid too since they will give that out to regular admit students first.
Based on the last couple of posts, I just went to UMD’s website again and I found this: “Students admitted for the spring semester are not considered for merit scholarships”. This sucks! I know we should be grateful for admission but we got all that paperwork done by the deadline and now it won’t even be considered. We are not eligible for need based aid so this certainly changes the decision making process.
Denied (In-state)

Isn’t spring admission the lower end of the admitted students? Like the kids that were borderline? Doesn’t it make sense that they don’t get scholarships?
Again I repeat myself. If you want to be added to the groupme, please pm me your contact info that’s associated with your Groupme account. That goes for you as well @sml1234
@EngineeringDad7777 - From my D’s experience in Honors, i can say that the Honors Classes/Seminars that were required all satisfied either Major or GenEd requirements. My D has already completed all that were required and received her Honors College Citation last semester. She also said that they were a lot of work, but were among her Most interesting courses to date.
I’m sure the same is true about Scholars
are LIVING AND LEARNING programs (such as global communities) optional?
How can I become apart of the GroupMe and Facebook groups?
what is the global communities program?
Heard back yesterday:
ACT 35 (superscored), UW GPA 4.0
2 AP’s
Got into honors
