University of Maryland - College Park EA Class of 2023

is it possible to appeal if you didn’t get into the honors college?

I understand some of the applicants have delayed decisions for incomplete requirements but … Coalition has a very clear layout and the checklist is regularly updated. I’m a little confused how this escaped some applicants …

Sigh…No results for my son today - applied to Engineering and Music. Probably hear by Feb 15th when music decisions come out.

@Goldendaisies7 Hi, everything shows completed. I submitted everything early October. Nothing shows missing on the checklist. A little worried now.

For me my counselor told me it had been sent two separate times and even forwarded it to me. We even had to get my principal involved. With my checklist not being updated I just assumed that it hadn’t been process until I emailed UMD and they told me they had never even received it.

@Ezga3969 the website sent emails saying the application was 100% complete and submitted to Maryland

Then that would have to be a Coalition issue unless you applied through the university itself right? Because I had the opposite issue and UMD received all of my materials but Coalition hadn’t updated for weeks… still very upsetting I’m sure

Accepted!

Hi @Ezga3969

A simple, ‘sorry to hear that’ would have been fine.

@Goldendaisies7 - If you’re referring to my post… The UMD admissions counselor did NOT tell the hs counselor to re-add the transcript to Coalition. The UMD admissions counselor told my daughter that once documents are added by the counselor, the STUDENT then has to go and add that to the application. I absolutely HATE the Coalition’s interface! One of my daughter’s recommenders called me to ask me how to get her recommendation letter onto Coalition’s website. It’s unnecessarily difficult.

Hello @STEM2017 my sibling works in the admissions office at UMD, so I’m just trying to gauge the issue and throw in my two cents of anecdotal/observational info. Take it easy

@Ezga3969 Thank you for your two cents regardless. Can you advise on what would be my best course of action and if I could be considered back in my early application pool or at least regular decision?

Congrats to everyone who is receiving acceptances for fall 2019 and spring 2020! Our D18 has loved her first semester at UMCP. She’s in the scholars program, which has helped her get to know a cohort of students and faculty w a common course and experiences in an area of interest for the first two years at MD. https://scholars.umd.edu/programs It’s been a great opportunity for DD to meet other students with similar interests and to form a relationship with professors in the program. The students live in the same dorm community, which has AC :). It’s definitely a great program to consider, and parparticipation is noted on their transcript.

@LinaOaks I would definitely call the admissions office. They’re generally understanding (more so than other public schools) about these kinds of things, and have a grace period. The early admissions round is officially over, so I would assume you will be considered as an RD applicant. And your Coalition profile showing 100% completion may help your case. I wish you the best of luck!

@Ezga3969 I work in a public high school counseling office where counselors and teachers have had numerous issues with the Coalition interface. The fact that there are multiple students on this thread with similar problems means UMD and Coalition can do better with items that are not directly under a student’s control.
