So, folks, did y’all see this? https://wtop.com/prince-georges-county/2019/01/local-students-get-college-acceptance-letters-delivered-special/slide/1/
FYI, I seem to remember that when they last did the bus (I think @SoofDad may have better recall than me on this), the results came out by the end of the week, but of course, there’s no guarantee…
I expect the results to come out by Friday, at the latest
@UMDgirl23 may I ask what your stats where for your application? Were u in state or OOS? Did u have to ask about FC or was it presented to u as an option?
@md2384 I am in state. I went to a private school and had a weighted GPA of 3.8 and a 32 ACT. I had an internship for two summers and a lot of volunteer hours. FC is presented to every one who gets in for the spring semester I believe, not sure, but I learned about it when I got my decision letter. I was on the waitlist for the fall semester which only a couple people who get in spring semester make, but didn’t get off of it.
Freshman Connection(FC) is an OPTION for anyone admitted for spring, so it’s important to note that it is NOT automatic. Spring admission just means you are eligible for FC, not that you are enrolled in it.
If you want to do this awesome program (FC), you must sign up for it and note that “Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.” See details here https://oes.umd.edu/incoming-current-visiting-students/freshmen-connection/enroll-freshmen-connection
Some spring admits opt to do the fall as a semester abroad https://globalmaryland.umd.edu/offices/freshmen-abroad-semester-programs-spring-admitted-maryland-students.
And, finally, some spring admits just use the opportunity to work a few months to build up some cash reserves to help pay expenses.
However you slice it, spring admission is still an admission (yay!), so you should celebrate it!
@UMDgirl23 congrats on getting in! I’m sure you know people that have done FC, but it truly is such a great option and you are right…there basically is no difference. I know someone who did FC and his roommate was not another FC student so yes the FC students are just mixed in with everyone else. I think maybe you just can’t rush or be on a varsity sport but that’s really not a big deal. I think it’s so great the UMD offers this program.
And you can rush in the winter. It’s just the fall they make you wait, I believe.
I posted this in response in another thread but it seems pertinent here as well. DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED if you get Freshman Connection. Please take advantage of it. My son got FC (he is a Senior now), he took later classes first semester freshman year. While he was last to pick for 2nd semester freshman year, he got all the classes he needed and had fulfilled so many required courses in Freshman Connection, that he was able to take the next level classes. He applied the end of Freshman year for a highly competitive LEP - Government and Politics - and was accepted. He is graduating on time, with a minor in Sustainability and a straight A average from Freshman Connection through this past semester Senior year. It was by far the BEST thing we ever did was to go into Freshman Connection. It is a wonderful way to transition into College in a less intense environment. There is absolutely no stigma and the transition to being a regular student was seamless.
Chance me for early action please

Based on your stats and ECs, I would say you have a very good chance of getting in EA. According to https://www.admissions.umd.edu/explore/about-maryland, “For students admitted for the Fall 2018 semester, the middle 50% of SAT scores ranged from 1320 to 1470, and 30-34 on the ACT. Admitted freshmen also earned an average weighted GPA of 4.28.”
My ACT is a 32 but my GPA is a lot lower than i would like… hoping i get some good news on Friday (fingers crossed it isn’t later…) but i’m pretty scared
@mea2023 My son is in a similar situation. ACT 34 but lower wGPA - 3.75. Does UMD recalculate gpa?
Does UMD recalculate GPA’s?
Yes, UMD recalculates GPA’s based on their own scale which I believe is 4.5? Every high school has different scale (my local high school uses a 7 point scale!), so that’s how they try to give a relatively equal assessment for everyone.
@maryversity I made a minor mistake on my application to UMD. I said that I was a “fluent English speaker” instead of a “native English speaker (which I am).” I sent an email to them correcting this mistake a few days after the EA deadline, but I received no response from them. I know I may seem paranoid but could this minor mistake have any bearing on my admissions decision? Thanks!
word on the street here in montgomery county is that decisions are going to be released this friday. can anyone confirm or corroborate?
How does freshman connection work? Would UMD offer you freshman connection instead of regular enrollment or do you have to apply separately for freshman connection?
@Ezga3969 that seems to be the most popular guess based on previous years’ release dates. So less than 48 hours! Good luck!
@umd080612 - Freshman Connection is offered to those who are admitted for Spring 2020. It is a first come/first serve option. You would have to enroll in FC, but there is no additional application that I know of
There’s no other application for FC!
