that is what I thought too. However, my son who is oos only got $20 total. really don’t get it. wondering if this is wrong. 103 weighed average, 95 unvweighted, 1520 SAT, Nmf, 12 aps, 6 cl.
So disappointed, $2000 per year OOS. Aerospace Engineering. Of course UMD would have to be his 1st choice. Every other school was way more generous.
Same here! I was shocked my daughter didn’t get more. She’s so disappointed.
Does anyone know if the Presidents Scholarship is “rolling”? Or if i didn’t get an email, I definitely didn’t get it?

For the merit awards, is it also posted somewhere on the website somewhere? My son is having issues with his email so he doesn’t know if he got an email or not.
Any merit award should also be listed on his checklist in the Coalition App portal, @momofmam121711.
The merit awards are also posted in the Coalition App in the Checklist Tab - scroll down to the bottom - after LLP…

Wait, I didn’t get any email yet and I don’t see anything related to merit scholarships in the portal. Does this mean I didn’t get any scholarship, or do they release for other people later?
I’m very hopeful as I have a 1520 SAT and accepted OOS for Computer Science + FIRE
@lovemycats To the best of my understanding, they do not reconsider merit awards. There are a lot of students with amazing stats like your student that didn’t get any award at all. I totally get the disappointment and reaction of wanting to eliminate Maryland based on that; certainly finances are a major issue in the decision process.
You asked for thoughts on this. I will tell you that an education is an education and a degree is a degree. It doesn’t matter where you go to school as much as what you do at that school when you get there. I think success is determined mostly by internal motivators. However, if you want reasons to keep Maryland on your list, read this thread http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1743639-things-to-love-about-maryland-p1.html and given the major of computer science, you really should consider how special the facilities will be https://iribe.cs.umd.edu
oh wait- “$8,000 to be equally distributed over four years” I stand corrected at my previous post. I only receive $2,000 a year. Time to decline offer of admission ?
are you instate of ops? my feelings about my sons boos offer
I am assuming you are a representative from the school. I honestly don’t understand how you decide you gets what amount. When speaking to representives at Maryland we were lead to believe my son had a good shot at bannerkeye and if not a good merit scholarship. Yes maryland does have a lot to offer, & is a well regarded school for computer sciences, but so are all the other schools my son applied to. Rutgers offered a $20,ooo per year scholarships, bringing it just about ny instate costs, 7 stony brook is just as well regarded offering freer tuition. I would have liked to at least seen similar numbers. thank you for your feedback this has just left me with unhappy thoughts on the school.
@lovemycats “I am assuming you are a representative from the school.” If you are addressing me, then no, I am not a representative of the school. I am just an alum and a parent of a two-time Maryland graduate (undergrad and grad school), so my posts are just my personal opinions. I don’t decide anything.
I am sure your son will do very well wherever he goes, and I hope he is as happy at his school of choice as mine was at Maryland.
Thank you for your thoughts.
Very surprised and happy to share that my son received a Presidential Scholarship of $12,500 per year. We are out of state (CT). Smith School of Business, CP Scholars. We never expected to receive such a generous award from a state school. UMD is most definitely a contender for our kiddo.
I’ve rejected my offer of admission this morning. I’m so heartbroken and it’s so unfortunate that I wasn’t able to get sufficient merit aid, but I guess it’s just not meant to be.
I’ve had an incredible journey with all of the frequent flyers in this thread and I can’t wait to hear where everyone ends up!
