Helping my first child apply to college with the Common App, so this is new for both of us. When trying to submit UMD app, the Common App said he needed to self report all Courses & Grades for all years of high school. Is this part of the Common App for UMD? UMD website doesn’t say anything about SRAR, just need to have school send official transcript.
Yes, you need to self report courses and grades on the Common App for UMD. You also need to send an official high school transcript.
thanks
My son has a weighted GPA of 4.97 at time of application. He started taking APs freshman year and the rest are all honors.
Montgomery County got rid of the regular classes a few years ago, in the name of promoting equity. Now, almost all classes are Honors except very few. Honors classes carry the same weights as the APs. Obviously, the weighted GPAs are inflated . Other counties are probably doing the same.
No wonder, the average GPA is above 4.5 at UMD.
Other counties (at least not all) are not weighting honors and AP the same. AP is plus 1; honors is plus 0.5
Most colleges recalculate unweighted grades to their own scale to account for weighting differences between high schools. They also use their own scales. For example, some colleges weight high schools using 0.5 increase for honors and 1.0 increase for AP.
Seeing all the posts here about the slow time to clear materials in Portal - concerned that DD will be bumped to RD. DD submitted 11/1 for EA. HS released all Materials on 10/17 (they use Naviance w/ Common app). I can see UMD downloaded app on 11/2 and it says all materials are missing except the SAT scores send from CB. The portal email just arrived this morning with a 24 hour window to activate 1? which she did. I assume it will take a few days to match the common app to the recs and transcript but now very concerned that since it shows missing she will be bumped to RD. Should we be worried? Thank you
@Miriam_Pipko , please give UMD admissions a call . They are very friendly. You will have peace of mind.
