I was invited to interview at Maryland and am really excited, but the interview is only 20 minutes. Is this bad? I am not sure what to expect...I was contacted late last week and am interviewing on Monday.

Anyone ever heard of a 20 minute interview?

I just had a couple of pretty intense interview weekends during which I had four or five interviews per school visited. At one school, each interview lasted roughly thirty minutes and at another, they lasted for twenty. So it's pretty normal, yes. And don't worry-- even though twenty minutes seems short, you can actually learn a lot (and say a lot about yourself) in that amount of time.

I'm also a music PhD candidate if that helps.

My interview actually lasted 1.5 hours and the faculty brought me around campus and introduced me to the staff. They mentioned that I may teach a course as well. They talked a lot about my writing samples so that was good. They couldn't figure out why I would want to go to their school given my other applications to much more competitive schools...I just told them exactly why I chose them-faculty+location.

I will wait and see what they say :)

Glad to hear it went so well for you. Good luck with them and your other schools!
