Hi! I'm from Thailand. I'm studying in an international school at the moment, just started YEar12. Next year will be my last year (year13) before I go off to university. I'm only considering universities in Australia, because I just think that the ones in Uk are too strict about education, and I've never considered USA before because I don't like the country that seems too crowded and busy. I'm considering University of Melbourne, I know that it's one of the best universities in Australia. But the grades required are very low, and that gave my mum negative views on this university. But a counsellor at my school said that the grades are low, because they want to attract foreigners. For me, as a Thai student, I've always viewed other uK universities that are on the lower ranks as better universities than the ones in Australia, which I know that it might not be true. Are the ones in the lower rank (lower than 10-20) in UK are worse than the ones in Australia (UMelb)? I want to go to UMelb because I feel like it seems to be more international (many people are from different countries). But my friends told me that Australian people are racist (towards Asian people). I don't think this is true, because there are many Asian students studying in Australia.

What I want to know is whether UMelb is a good university, and is it better than the ones in the lower rank in UK? I feel like i'll definitely have more fun in UMelb rather than in any universities in UK. Also, I've heard that the country Australia is very beautiful, but i'd like to know whether it's crowded like in USA? Is it peaceful and calm? And how's the weather?

I'm interested in Computer Engineering major, and a Mathematics minor, or the other way round. But i'm not sure whether they offer these minor courses. Do they? And I looked up at the ranking table, UMelb is not on the top 50 universities if you're talking about Mathematics major.

I really love maths, but I want to know how they study in universities. Right now i'm studying C3 and S1 and i would like to know whether the classes are similar like the ones i'm studying? Right now i can't choose whether to do a computer engineering major or a mathematics major.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
