Hey I applied to the U EA and still haven’t heard back… my gpa is a 96.3 and I took 7 AP classes (global history, physics, Spanish, lit & comp, language and comp, American history, and AB Calc), I am the historian of the national honor society, I am in 6 honor societies (national, english, math, social studies, science), I am in student govt, varsity bowling for four years (1 Jv, 3 varsity), top 5% of my class (30 out of 589), and I work at a deli on weekends and in summers, also coach kids at my local bowling alley every Saturday morning. I am bilingual, Dominican/Puerto Rican, and really would love to go to the U, can anyone let me kno if they think I got it??
You’ll get in
Thank you ! And I see that you regret going to UTampa? Would u mind telling me why I was looking at that school as well @newuser321
Also why do u think I would get in? My SAT was 1210/1600 which I know isn’t that strong but I’m hoping the other stuff helps me out @newuser321
Your GPA is very good as well as your class rankings. Also, umiami is a very diverse school and love diversity! SAT aren’t always the determining factor, however, may prevent you from receiving scholarships
I was between the university of Florida and the university of Tampa. I chose university of Tampa because UF was so expensive. UT is very nice as far as class sizes and academic scholarships! However, personally, I would much rather have a college town. It is a smaller school and some of the surrounding area is unsafe. Also it is very weird but many people from my experience talk about transferring.
Oh okay thank you, well yeah the money is definitely a concern for me … that’s why I was looking at Tampa and UF as well. Also applied to others but I love FL. How are the people at UT? Parties? Diversity? Since it’s small does everyone know each other? How difficult are the classes? & unsafe how??? Thank u in advance for all these questions ! You seem very knowledgeable @newuser321
From my experience this is what I would say
Tampa:
Pros
- nice class sizes (largest was 40)
-professors are nice
-easy to get to class (5 min)
-pool on campus
-good food (steak in the cafe) - Clearwater is 40 minutes away
- lots of concerts
-teachers know your name (however attendance counts as a grade)
People:
-mostly out of state! - some complain about the people but I believe everyone is nice! (Sometimes I find it hard to meet people because it’s small and people seem to group fast)
- pretty diverse (a lot of people from Long Island and Trinidad haha)
Socially
-definitely a bar school!
-people usually go to bars and clubs which gets expensive. - people go out very early haha like happy hours at like 8
- there are frats (don’t have housing) but they usually get busted pretty fast and you have to uber there
Safety:
-the campus itself is very safe, however, campus safety can be strict. - behind campus is a very dangerous area
-off-campus housing is in the ghetto
Cons:
-absolutely like no school spirit
-no tailgates or even big sporting events - can feel a bit like high school
University of Florida/Umiami
-definitely more well respected and known.
-has football and basketball.
-sense of school pride
- probably a lot better socially
-weather is better in Tampa and Miami than gainsville
Wowwww!! Thank you so much for that I greatly
Appreciate it !! Will definitely factor that into my decision @newuser321
