My question mainly comes down to which is a better value. As I live in Colorado I can get tuition room and board and everything for about $20,000. I was also accepted to the University of Miami and got a $20,000 a year scholarship, so the cost goes from $47,000 to $27,000. I love Florida and the school but Colorado is pretty sweet too. Miami is rated 50th and CU is 77th. Do you think the price difference is worth it?
Neither school gave me any need based financial aid.

What do you want to study? Does part of your desired experience include being away from home a significant distance?

Ratings are only one item to look at, Miami might be a better value based on class size and prof accessibility, while CU might be a better fit for your intended major.

Lots to consider.

biology is my main focus preferably something related to the medical field. Boulder is far enough away that contact won’t be necessary and I do want to feel independent or on my own aside from taking my parents money lol.

Is there by chance a site that ranks the quality of a schools biology programs. I heard csu was 3rd in the country on their website where could I find a similiar list with rankings.

USNWR may rank the individual undergrad sciences but is that really how you want to base your decision? If Miami is ranked 28th and CU is 32nd (or whatever) will that be the deciding factor for you?

Medical school is all about GPA and MCATs, so long as you perform well at a reputable college (CU-Boulder and Miami count as reputable), you’ll be fine. As far as a career in the health field but not directly in medicine, contact the career centers of the two schools and see who and how many of the companies you’d want to work for recruit at the two schools, (also see what type of jobs they recruit for - i.e., biz vs bio).

My son had a great experience at Miami as a Marine Sciences/Biology double major. He met great professors and had excellent research opportunities. He got a job as a lab manager right out of school, but as they say, your mileage may vary.

I’ve been to Boulder once and the two environments couldn’t be more different. Boulder is a great college town, Miami is sensational city. UC is big, UMiami is medium-small. Boulder has the mountains and skiing, Miami the beaches and diving. Only you can decide the place that is going to give you the opportunity to perform at your best.

The two places are soooo far apart. Boulder is big, about snowboarding, campus based social life

Meanwhile UM is city social life, beaches, smaller, etc

Tough choice but it’s up to you
