I applied ED to the University of Miami and to tell you the truth, after reading several posts I don't think I have much of a chance of getting in but I'd like to hear from y'all.

GPA: 3.2
SAT: 1150

-I go to one of the top high schools in the nation (Horace Greeley)
-Member of Varsity Golf team for 4 years, Captain this year
-Played in dozens of Golf tournaments over past summers and throughout the school year and won 2 over this summer
-Member of Film Club
-Member of Ultimate-Frisbee Club
-Member of Mountain Biking Club since freshman year
-Volunteer for S.H.A.R.E. (Students Have a Responsibility Everywhere)
-Volunteered for Buick Classic (Pro golf tournament) for 4 years, includes about 75 hours of volunteer work
- Worked as an Assistant Manager in a shipping/copying (mix of kinkos and mailboxes etc if you know what i mean) business everday of the week
- Now working as Assistant Manager at a small gym during the weekends
-Taking 2 AP classes this year( Spanish and Environmental Science)

There may be a few more that I'm missing but I'm not sure. Thanks

wow haha, that makes me feel a lot better. I mean i know my GPA and SAT's are pretty damn low, like below 25%ile, that's why I don't think I have a chance but I really wanna go there.

I applied there early too and I'm not that stellar of a student either. I feel most people on these boards are the overachievers who have great grades and should apply to ivies but want miami for some reason. (no offense to these people, it's just not me). Don't stress and 33 more days till we know, good luck.

to be quite frank, your gpa is VERY low compared to miami's avg. of 4.0, and your SAT is also a but low compared to their avg of like 1250...

i would say that your chances are about 35%, mostly because of your gpa, although going to a very good school will help your chances. your sat is OK, a bit below avg, but i dont think that will hurt you THAT much...

good luck to you! i am applying there also...im just scared that i wont get a good scholarship b/c my school does not rank....

Oh, and you do realize the average score of the country is a 1020, don't you? So to say an 1120 is "pretty damn low, like below 25%ile" just means you've been reading this board too much.

Like johnst and candie said, the users of this board have some insane stats. A 1400 is a spectacular score, yet it'd be just barely average if compared to most people.

Gta255 is referring to UMiami's AVERAGE SAT, not the nation's--so yes, in fact, his SAT is below the 25th percentile. Consider:

Admitted student mid-range SAT I scores for the University of Miami:
-25th percentile: 1160
-75th percentile: 1340

Miami is definately a reach, but with a good essay and other outside factors (like geographical diversity) you might have a solid chance.

Haha yeah I actually wrote two essays instead of one. Hope that might help. I live in New York which may or may not be considered geographically diverse considering that a good amount of people from NY go to Miami. SO i duno, 28 days....
