How is a 41/45 IB Diploma grade with Math SL for Michigan with 4HLs? I am uncertain if I am competitive for the Ross BBA major. Also would like to know if the BBA is STEM-OPT Eligible. I shot a call to the office and sent a mail, but no response yet.
Call again or reach out to your admissions counselor that you can look up under admissions. https://admissions.umich.edu/
Yep, they picked up this time. I can confirm that the BBA is NOT STEM-Certified. I think I’ll have to do a double major if I want eligibility instead.
That’s helpful for others reading this.
Hello I am a senior attending a private high school.
I have a 3.81 uw GPA, 4.04 w GPA, taken 2 APs in Chemistry and Computer Science Junior year – got a 3 on the AP Chem Test and a 4 on the AP Comp Sci – Currently taking 3 APs including AP Government and Politics, AP Biology, and AP Environmental Science (can only take 3 APs max for junior and senior year)-- 31 on the ACT 1220 on SAT but not reporting scores-- Volunteered at a Hospital for 3 years, Voluntary tutor in Chemistry for 1 year, Varsity Tennis 4 years + Team Captain for 1 year, Representative for Tennis on Athletic Leadership Council, played guitar for 12 years, President of a “destressing” club. Applying to the LSA College and looking to major in Chemistry.
What are my chances?
Michigan is unweighted 3.9 and 32-35 Act for lsa. Your not far off. How does your school do with sending students to Michigan with your stats? You are compared to your school /district.
My S24 is applying for Biomedical Engg EA (Nov 1) has the following profile
Out of state: CA in Competitive urban high school (Bay Area)
GPA: 3.91 uw (until junior)
SAT: 1560 (790E/770M)
ACT: 34 (M32/S36/E35/R33/W8)
Has taken 5 APs until Junior (Calc AB 5 / Biology 5 / Statistics 5 / Eng Lang Com 5 / Seminar 4) and taking these APs in Senior year (AP Physics / BC / Spanish / Eng Lit / Comp ScA / US Gov + Macroeconomics)
He is an Eagle Scout and has focused on lots of community and school volunteering (>150 hours). Hoping to get good recos from Bio and Eng teachers at school.
What are his chances?
He’s very competitive but hard to chance with around 90, 000 applications. For engineering the stats are 3.93 unweighted with 34 Act so he’s right there.
Many get deferred then accepted.
Good luck.

Chance them please.
Chancing doesn’t matter since they are both highly competitive. Many many highly competitive students apply. Writing an enticing essay helps.
Many of these high profile students will be deffered. It’s sorta a normal thing. Just hold on since you might not find out till mid April even if you applied EA. Once deferred you go into the RD pile and they look at the apps again.
The question to you is how does the schools do with the same stats /GPA getting into Michigan? That can be more telling.
Also for International students is $72,000/$76,000 affordable for 4 years?
Hi, Son (in-state) has a 3.6 UW/4.2 W GPA from a city HS with about 40 out of 300 students accepted last year. No class rank available. SAT taken once was 1530. No notable ECs, he works part time all year and volunteers through a HS club ocassionally. 9 APs, 5 taken (2 4s and 3 3s) and 4 APs planned for next spring. I think his essay was personable and above average.
Applied EA and is planning to send his first trimester senior year grades next week (3.9 UW expected). Hopefully they will be reviewed in time for Jan 30th EA decision.
Can you please chance him?
Forgot to mention that he applied to LSA-Undecided.
So from the 40 people accepted I would expect something like 12-15 that actually attend Michigan. But you need to look at the stats from that 40 grouping. Where does your son fall within acceptances within that group? Your son is compared to his peers at this school. This doesn’t always mean the person with the best GPA gets accepted. Michigan lsa avg is. Unweighted 3.9 with 32-35 Act and his Sat is great. Working counts BTW.
So if he As out and with his improvement this year It helps his cause. Coming in with a 3.6 is a tough to be honest. Anything below a 3.74 has a 6.4% chance according to the common data set. Look at section C6 and down Common Data Set – Office of Budget and Planning
His 1530 is in the 75% percentile.
Is he a first generation applicant?
Michigan looks at GPA and rigor of the class (the report says record but should be rigor).
This will most likely be a reach school but it is for many with much higher GPA also. Don’t be surprised if he is deffered. Many many are till April. Even if you applied EA.
Good luck.
Thanks! He isn’t first gen. Agree about the GPA.
Does Umich count Freshman year grades?
Yes. But if an upward trend then they seem to be discounted. Many people I know had low Freshman years but with strong upward trends are at Michigan or graduated from there.
@ Knowsstuff, is it a good idea to submit first semester grades (semester ends December 21st) even if not requested to? D24 has an unweighted GPA of 3.9 and it looks like she will end this semester with all As.
So Michigan will request if they want end of semester grades. But my sons school always sent end of semester grades to all schools kids apply to. If the 3.9 helps sure. Sometimes they want grades past this semester. They want to make sure kids are getting ready for college so no letting up or senioritis.
Son is OOS
1580 SAT (superscore)
4.79 Weighted GPA
8 AP classes (7 of them are 5’s, 1 is a 4)
6 AP classes senior year
Many national competitions
Started a 501C - raised over 10K in donations
Varsity Golfer for 3 years
Applying into the engineering program
Well, this is what’s it’s all about… No you don’t have to be a football fan but it’s definitely fun going to a football game at Michigan! Go Blue!!
