UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN CHANCES??

**I’m applying regular decision because I wanted to take the ACT.

White OOS female.

SAT: 2140 (640 CR, 730 writing, 770 math)
-30 on first ACT (E 32, M 29, R 33, S 27). I took the ACT this past Saturday and think I did much better.

GPA: 91.5714/100 W (almost a 3.7/4).
-My school does not report unweighted GPAs because it is a very academically competitive school. Additionally, honors and AP classes are weighted equally with five extra points, whereas some schools make AP classes worth ten extra points.

-I took multiple honors classes and one AP class during my junior year.

Senior year courses:
AP literature & composition
AP government & politics
AP environmental science
AP Spanish VI
Calculus
-I took three AP tests last year but I didn’t do well so I’m not going to report my scores.

ECs:
Emergency Medical Technician for two years
-Over 900 community service hours.
-I was also recently elected to be the “Senior Cadet Leader”, meaning I’m in charge of all of the other EMTs that are in high school.
-Have spent some time co-instructing my old EMT class, in which I earned the highest grade.

National Honor Society
-Was given an award for having the most community service hours out of all of my peers.

Shadowed a plastic surgeon over the summer.

Soccer
-Captain of the JV team as a freshman
-Named “Most Improved” on Varsity during sophomore year
-Junior and senior year, I was a Varsity starter.
-Played for a club team that won two state championships, one of which was hosted by a national soccer league (USYS National Championship Series State Cup Championship). The team was ranked among the top ten teams for my age group in the country.

Varsity track & field athlete since freshman year.

*****My dad attended UMich’s business school, if that helps at all.

Chance me! Michigan is now my first choice since I got rejected from my ED school (CMU) and I don’t know what I’m going to do if I don’t get in.

  1. Which Michigan college (LSA, engineering , nursing etc.) ?
  2. Please recalculate your Michigan GPA (any A=4, any B=3, etc.). Don’t add AP bump.
  3. What is your estimated ACT?

Sorry! I should’ve been more clear.

  1. LSA
  2. If I’ve calculated it correctly, I believe it’s a 3.7
  3. I’m guessing a 32 but I won’t know for sure until the scores come out

I’m assuming CMU is Carnagie Mellon University, and not Central Michigan University. I kinda stopped and looked at that a minute. LOL. (Central Mich isn’t hard to get into)

Your 3.7 gpa out of state worries me. . Hate to say that, but competition is fierce.
Good strategy to try to up your ACT a little…will help you.

Out of curiosity, at what age can you get EMT licensure in your state? In Michigan, you have to be 18 and licensed to work as an EMT. Could you clarify who you worked for? I’m thinking about medical liability insurance ambulance companies must carry on their medics…am concerned how that works with a minor?

Might be wise to clarify how all of this works in your state…because the questions I’m asking myself about that section of your application will likely be on the minds of the people who read your application…since EMTs here have to be 18 to work in the field…that might read sort of unbelievably to them.

Your dad being an alumni might help you.

In my state, you have to be 16 to get your EMT license. I’m 18 though. I really don’t think their first thought is going to be whether my EMT license is valid or not. Thank you for your feedback!
