Summer Activities: hung out with friends 24/7 lol
Essays: Common App: 10/10 wrote in 1 hour then spend 4 months editing with multiple friends and teachers. IMO strongest part of my application, I feel my essay was very inciteful and meaningful

Why UM: 8/10 Very personal and inciteful as well, wasn’t very specific however, wrote a paragraph about LSA and one about Ross

Community: 9/10 talked about hometown and privelidge, as well as attitude towards one’s privilege (or lack of)

Hobbies: 7/10 solid essay about soccer but nothing they haven’t seen before, it seems like everyone and their mother wrote about sports

Teacher Recommendation: No idea, as I didn’t read it and my teacher had to write 20 of them in 2 weeks. My guess is they were really well written but everyone got more or less the same one with some tweaks, and we all applied to UM lol
Counselor Rec: Didn’t Read either, counselor had to write one for 100+ kids so guessing similar to teacher, we are pretty close tho
Additional Rec: Letter of Rec from extremely influential public figure with close ties to UM (not dropping name for obvious reasons) probably held a lot of weight

Another from a math teacher whose class I worked on upwards of thirty hours a week to be successful in (she had never had anyone that dedicated to their 4.0 before,) one from a Spanish teacher who basically watched me try not to crumble under the weight of my parents’ ugly divorce my freshman year. Accepted out of state!

Name of University of Michigan school you are applying to and major: LSA for Poli Sci (Out of State)

SAT I (breakdown): 1470 (760 CR, 710 Math)
ACT (breakdown): 32 (33 superscore, 34 R, 34 W, 31 M, 31 S)
SAT II: Accidentally sent them (don’t ask how) but 640 Spanish and 700 US History (bad, I know)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): Unweighted: 3.81, Weighted is 4.05 (school doesn’t weigh dramatically, top people in my class have 4.3-4.5). Note that I went through some traumatic experiences during high school so my GPA isn’t as high as it could be, though it is still great. My senior year GPA is a 4.52 (all As in 4 AP classes) and I sent those in.
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn’t rank, but definitely top 10%.
AP (place score in parenthesis): 5 (Euro), 5 (Psych)
Senior Year Course Load: AP Comparative Gov’t, AP US Gov’t, AP Spanish, college-level English class, electives
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Hispanic Scholar, journalism piece commended at state conference, national honors society, spanish honors society.

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): school newspaper (4 years, editor-in-chief. launched social media and website from scratch and dramatically improved the paper. Presented at state conference about my success), camp counselor (3 years, junior counselor, which is a leadership position), canvassed for 2 politicians for 3 political cycles, did a special needs camp for 2 years, and a bunch of smaller stuff. I overcame obesity during high school (lost 80 pounds after becoming obese due to mental issues) and I put exercising as a hobby as it takes up a significant amount of time, so it kind of counts as an extracurricular. I did a good amount of extracurricular but I really focused on 2-3 of them, so they were quality.
Volunteer/Community service: National Honors Society (400 hours)
Essays: VERY good, I think it is what got me in. It is about how I came out as gay and became depressed due to bullying, ultimately leading to me becoming obese through using food to cope. I then described how I overcame my obesity and issues by dieting and losing 80 pounds. Made people cry (I didn’t focus on the gay part because I don’t like using that card, but I had to mention it).
Teacher Recommendation: Very good, I imagine. Didn’t read them, though.
Interview: N/A

Applying for Financial Aid?: Yes.
State (if domestic applicant): NJ
School Type: Large Public
Ethnicity: Hispanic (Michigan does not practice affirmative action, though)
Gender: M
Income Bracket: upper middle class (200k+)
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM, gay, overcame obesity, grades on upward trend. Note that Michigan does not practice affirmative action, however.

I believe my essay got me in as many people in my school with better stats than me were deferred. I was accepted alongside the top people in my class.

I just heard that a few people got acceptances last Friday. The Wolverine Access site says decision will be available by 15th April. Isn’t this too soon? Or do they send decisions out for deferred application normally at this time? I haven’t received any update. Has any other deferred person who applied to the College of Engineering received an update?

@shanny2 Its normal to be receiving deferred results as rolling
sometimes the process lags but for the most part all deferences are out by then
