University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

@SingingBusDriver thanks for the info! Do we know why it’s being pushed back?

Can someone summarize what has been going on? Are decisions for either LSA or Ross coming out today at 3:00 pm ET?

@jackalakka we don’t know basically. somebody who supposedly has good inside info originally said today for LSA but recently said “sometime later this week”. Idk how accurate that is, but something could definitely be coming out today.

I think it’s safe to say at this point that we won’t know until 3pm today. Although SingingBusDriver did give her input, she said to take it with a grain of salt since anything is subject to change. There’s a possibility that it may come out today, there’s a possibility that it may come out tomorrow, and there’s a possibility that it may come out Friday. However, it is definitive that it will come out by the 24th! So in that case, hold on to your hope because no matter what day it comes out, the end is near  best of luck to you, hope you get in!

@flutespell Michigan posts what AP credits are accepted based on the test and scores. I would check that to see how your scores line up to see how many credits you’ll get!

Note: for LSA, NONE of your AP credits will count for your major, skill, of distribution credits. They will all be put into the extracurricular category and can count for prerequisites.

what I have heard is that we won’t be able to see on the portal until tomorrow but we should get an email today. deferrals will come out first so hope for a late email is my best guess

I was OOS in California last year going through the same thing you guys are going through now - I am in the Class of 2022.

Last year, on Wed., Dec 20, believing decisions would be coming out that day, I was checking my UM portal every few minutes. At approximately 1:45pm PST, my portal was updated with a box to click on with the details of my EA decision.

At around 10:45pm PST that same evening, I received a follow-up congratulatory email confirming the portal information.

The portal was definitely the first place of notification for the decision. Several hours later, the email notice arrived.

I’m not 100% certain, but I strongly believe that is NOT correct. I’d consult with an advisor. AP Credits helped A LOT in my kid’s case.

How are we gonna find out? Do we get an email, or do we just log onto our portals at 3?

@jackalakka i guess the portal will be the first thing to show it, but an email will come later

Actually, it is correct, with the qualifier that AP credits in foreign language will fulfill the language requirement.

@KES2022 does that mean that deferrals come out sooner?

So when are the decisions coming out? Today or later in the week?

I’ve heard decisions would be out at 5 pm Eastern, but only for specific schools at Umich, I’m not sure which ones.

@geebster23 was it a reliable source? (Not attacking u just curious lol)

@cdr2001, Looking at last year’s thread for the class of 2022, it appears that both deferrals and acceptances were interspersed at various times throughout that particular day… assuming people’s posting times coincided fairly close to their notification time.

Thank you for the correction. I was confused, but I just read UMich’s website. As @indigoelephant mentioned above, AP credits can satisfy some of your graduation requirement for elective credits, which is 40 of the 120 credits to graduate, is that correct?

Yes.

@bella246 no it’s all good, my friend goes to UofM and apparently asked his friend who works in admissions.

@jackalakka - in summary, as you requested:

UM’s past announcement practices, especially the most recent couple of years, would lead one to believe that today was the likely announcement date. Supporting this was the postings from @SingingBusDriver - who seemingly has useful contacts. That said, today was never confirmed, and this Friday could also have been viewed as a logical date. Then today, @SingingBusDriver indicated that decisions will not come out today after all. This has caused a predictable buzz.

As to whether an applicant’s major dictates the date of announcement, I do not believe that has been the case in past years (although I can’t speak to those in the fine arts, etc, who may have auditions, etc.). Based on past practices, all qualified EA applicants should expect a decision at roughly the same time…albeit a large percentage will be merely deferred into the RD pool. There is conflicting information on whether your announcement will be first notified by email or first posted in the portal, and whether the pace and order of these communications vary by whether accepted, rejected or deferred.

Historically, Ross direct admit has been handled separately and not announced until some weeks later, on a rolling basis. The practice was that Ross did not begin to evaluate direct admit applications until after they have been admitted to their underlying major (LSA, COE, etc.). Today, @SingingBusDriver has implied that these Ross decisions for EA applicants may be coming sooner than in the past.

[I do not know @SingingBusDriver - and I have no opinion as to the accuracy of her information (but I do appreciate receiving the information). I am merely summarizing as requested. Within days, we will know the answers to all of these questions!]
