University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

No one will get a denial today, if decisions come out at all. But when they do come out whether it be today or Friday, there will be no denials, only acceptances and deferrals. Then the waiting game begins… again. Ridiculous.

Nice summary @altmusicman

@Momof3frommich Wait why no denials

@ Momof3frommich What makes you say no denials? The website says there are three possibilities: admit, defer, deny.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

To quote SpongeBob, “Why, once I met this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy’s cousin…”

The decisions will be released when the decisions are released. Anything not posted on the admissions website, in an email from admissions, etc., is just reading the tea leaves. Please refrain from asking for proof.

To put things in perspective, I am told that in the olden days before the magma cooled and while dinosaurs roamed the earth, kids had to wait by a thing called a mailbox until a person dressed in blue walked up at an unspecified date and time with an envelope containing their decisions. :slight_smile: Patience is a virtue.

Just found this on the UM website. I’m not gonna lie, statements like the one in the second paragraph bug me. IMHO, they shouldn’t tell kids “you’ll get a decision by Dec 24” if in fact more than half of the applicants will be deferred. That’s not a decision.

  1. Use caution when browsing the forums – Online college forums like College Confidential can be great resources for connecting with current and prospective students, but they are notoriously rife with false information. Whether it’s a “chance me” thread or rumors about the exact date decisions will be released, you will encounter people who claim to have “insider information” that goes beyond what is released by the admissions office. Don’t buy it, and don’t waste your time. Just look to threads from past years to find mountains of misinformation.
  2. Have patience – This is a tough one. We get it. You’re on the verge of making one of the most important decisions of your life. It’s only natural to want as much information as possible, as soon as possible. That’s why applying Early Action is great. You absolutely WILL get a decision by Dec. 24. That’s a guarantee that can help – at least a little – to put your mind at ease.

@skieurope… Great advise and with a sponge Bob reference… Nicely done!

You just might be the coolest moderator :smiley:

Here is a copy of the post that I made last year here at CC—with time and date stamp—shortly after getting my UM portal EA notification:

“12-20-2017 at 2:00 pm
Los Angeles is up!
Accepted!”

Here is a copy of the subsequent EA email notification I received from UM later that evening, with time and date stamp:

@KES2022 aww that congratulations email made me sad because I know I won’t get one… :frowning: but thanks for the info (not sure if you meant to include your UM ID at the end)

dang that acceptance email hurts, psyching myself up for that sweet CoE deferment

@TheFrenchChef, Stay positive during this process. If you happen to get deferred, you’ll have another great opportunity for admission during RD. Oh, and thanks for the heads up on my UM ID. I redacted it.

I just called admissions, the admissions counselor I spoke with saidanytime between today and Monday. They cannot give any other information as to the exact day and time. So looks like we just wait it out :frowning:

If I may ask, KEd2022 what was your HS Stats,?

Eh… the AO is just giving the party line (ie “no later than December 24”).

The answer the AO gave was not unexpected.

Just read the moderator’s post about bullying on this thread. I must’ve missed something. Can someone tell me what happened? Last time I looked (last night) there was nothing controversial going on.

Literally nothing happened lol. I’m not sure why we’re making a big deal out of nothing.

@KES2022 So out of curiosity, did you get any scholarship $? If yes, when did you find out what they offered? My daughter has been accepted to three colleges so far and all three gave the merit scholarship amount with the letter. Two sent the $ info electronically and the third mailed it with the $.

I have 2 college kids. Both applied to Michigan. First kid was 2016. They only gave out deferrals and admissions the week before Christmas. Then they slowly let out the other decisions starting in February. My daughter applied last year (2018). Everyone either got deferred or accepted on December 20. No denials. Not one showed up on this website and not one in my daughters class of 580 of which 200 applied to the school. The next decisions came in February. The first Friday in February, UofM admitted some more students. Again, no denials. Then the first Friday of March, they admitted some more students. Again, no denials. It was Good Friday (before Easter) that everyone actually got a decision… All remaining students were either waitlisted or denied. My daughter was waitlisted. They waitlisted 4000 students last year. It even said in her letter that “you must be disappointed despite your family ties…”. The waitlist letter said she would know by June 30. On June 30 at midnight…the big denial letter was sent. The entire process is frustrating! @mckate

@robotics2001 see my response below

My guess is today at 3PM EST, things will begin to blossom. Of course, the last time I guessed at anything, which was when I said to myself, “I guess I can stand here”, I got hit by a meteor. :-j
