University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

@LLAMALOVER101 Congrats to you too! I’m definitely enrolling as well, super excited. Good luck to everyone else

when do they decide on making final decision on the deferred ones?

Hey everyone, I just checked my email (it’s morning here for me), and I got in (to LSA)! I’m beyond shocked. Being OOS and without super amazing ECs, I was really expecting a deferal, especially after Yale deferred me SCEA, and I still can’t believe it. This is to say, Michigan could be for you what Yale was for me. There’s a great school out there for you, and you better believe it.

Accepted OOS
Female
LSA
1440 SAT
Excellent essays
4.69 gpa
Leadership, first gen, tons of extra curricular

ACCEPTED ENGINEERING…1570, 3.9 (3.99999 recalculated), 14 AP’s etc., you know how it is…

anyway i do think my essays helped a lot…people say deferral/acceptance is a toss-up but it’s really not…as long as you demonstrate your passion in a specific thing (non-academic things might actually be /preferred/ in this case) then you have a higher change of being admitted. OOS might be harder, but the same concept applies and that’s just tea!

you just have to demonstrate that you have a personality and/or passions without sounding fake, which unfortunately is hard to do on paper. good luck to yall tho!

@knutcracker001 did u get any news? ???

I don’t understand. Why didn’t I get an email?

@runucleverboi (from what I know) most people did not get emails. everyone just checked their portals and had a decision waiting.

got my decision just now but of course i’m too jittery to check ???

@lawandphotos Congratulations! It’s the Michigan Difference you have, I tell ya. GO BLUE!!!

accepted
OOS, oh no, it’s out of the country(OOC) since I’m an international student from China
but I do study in US for high school btw
composite ACT:36, poor reading only having 34
GPA(UW): 4.0
GPA(W): 4.76
Class Rank: no, my Quaker school won’t do that
and 7 APs, all 5s, and 3 sat2 all 800
and some extracurriculars, some leadership, some interns, not quite impressive indeed. I didn’t earn any robust awards like AIME top 5% or IMO team
essays are decent, I spent a lot of time working on it

Actually, I was surprised I can so easily get it(after deferred from Upenn I felt my future bleak), especially one of my friends who have the similar grade as mine and apparently more competitions and research experience got rejected.
Probably it’s because he’s not in US and chooses engineer school instead of LSA

appreciate that, tho

Has anyone been rejected EA? Does Michigan reject anyone EA? I haven’t heard of anyone being rejected…

@geekgurl how did u found out whether u got in or not?? i didn’t get an email and i never got my U-M ID AHH

@harshiiiii there’s a good chance it went to your spam email. If it did and it’s deleted contact the help service or admission.

Is there any place to get statistics, by school, as to how many apply annually, how many are accepted, and how many attend? I only ever see overall numbers for UofM, but I expect LSA, Engineering, etc., are different from each other.

@harshiiiii I never got an email either, I just logged into the portal and clicked “view decision”

Accepted!!!

Now we wait for the Ross decisions.

Congratulations to all other accepted students and good luck to those deferred

I understand that Michigan cares a great deal about yield. They want to accept students who want to attend. They even defer some better students who they think might go Ivy to see if they continue to pursue Michigan admission. Follow up with your admissions rep, submit your 1st semester grades and any other updates. Let them know that Michigan is your first choice not your safety school.

Business school.

1st week of February.
