University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

@queen1111 yes my son

Anyone been accepted into Ross yet? Or Know when they are going to start releasing decisions?

Think Tomorrow

Today’s scheduled LSA Honors notification pushed to Monday, 2/4 due to weather.

@Momof3frommich
Dates: Feb 1st, Mar 1st, Mar 29th, Apr 19th
All dates are Friday’s; admissions will be via portal (~5 pm, no later than 6) and email (a few hours later)

there will be no rejections or waitlists tomorrow, Feb 1st

@garamxmasala in your post above are you saying that for the next couple of fridays they are going to start releasing RD answers?

The decision release dates are for Ross, which may or may not coincide with the release dates for other schools at UMich:

https://michiganross.umich.edu/programs/bba/admissions-blog/2019/01/14/mark-your-calendars-when-our-bba-admissions-decisions-will

It seems they are making an effort to have similar release dates. It would be great if that happens but like every division is starting tomorrow like cross campus transfers, Ross, Lsa Etc

@garamxmasala are you saying that deferred/regular applicants who hear back tomorrow will only be accepted? What do you mean by no waitlist or rejections tomorrow?

The lack of anyone’s decision tabs disappearing, unless that “feature” was fixed by UMich, seems ominous to me. Hopefully, we’ll see some reports of decision tabs disappearing tomorrow.

Typically, the only notifications that are released in the February “waves” of notifications are acceptances. Waitlisted and rejected students are typically notified much later in the admissions process. I emphasize, typically.

How do you know? @romns116

@california01 @joliemorgan all decision dates that I posted are preferred admission for Ross

I’m unaware of dates and admission policies for other schools

@yikes_612

It’s posted on the LSA Honors application page

When do financial aid estimates/merit scholarships usually get announced?

@trackscience19 finaid estimates come on a rolling basis after they receive FAFSA and/or CSS

@socalsnr Hi!! Congrats on getting in!! The weather is definitely not as bad as they say. It’s true that this year was bad because of the polar vortex but up until a few days ago it wasn’t bad at all! In fact, I wished it would snow MORE. Michigan is one of the best universities in the country and the people and experiences you’ll come out with are are worth a little bit of cold. If you want, you can keep checking Ann Arbor’s weather to get an idea of what it’ll be like.

@socalsnr it seems everybody’s saying how Michigan weather isn’t that bad, so I’ll shed some light on the opposite perspective
As a Michigander, I’ve come to realize that seasonal depression (not to be confused with the mental illness) is real
Staying inside a vast majority of the time and rarely seeing a sun can take its toll, on some more than others

For me, it’s a big deal
I love going for 9 pm strolls and spontaneously biking
While I’m not an “active person”, I cant live cooped up
Think of what kind of person you are before choosing where you’ll live the next 4 years; if Michigan is right for you, we’ll be more than happy to have you join us!

Good point, @garamxmasala. At least where I live (on the coast of Lake Michigan, across the state from AA), we often live for weeks or even months under what we call the “permacloud”–the constant gray skies that seem to weigh heavy on your soul as well as your body.

For a more scientific view of the problem, check out these stats from my side of the state:
“November 2018 had only 1,556 minutes of some sunshine from a total possible 17,548 minutes of sunshine in the month. That is only eight percent of total possible sunshine. I guess when we look at it the other way, it sounds even worse. 92 percent of daylight hours in November had no sun at Grand Rapids. . . . In fact there wasn’t an entirely clear, sunny day at Grand Rapids last month. There were eight partly sunny days and 22 entirely cloudy days.”

Sigh.

On the positive side, the school year begins after Labor Day and ends around 5/1, so a student is only there for 8 months of the year with a 3-week vacation in the middle, several days off for Fall Break, Thanksgiving and a week for Spring Break.

And last Tuesday’s night men’s b-ball game against Ohio State, Crisler Arena was sold out. So far so good for my CA kid.

Yes, winter is cold in Ann Arbor. It is also cold in New York, Chicago and Boston and South Bend and Ithaca and Hanover NH and many other places with great schools. The last few days of sub zero conditions are not typical…this type of extreme cold snap happens once every 20 years or so. There are close to 1500 undergrads that come from California, and a few hundred more from Florida… they’re not deterred by the winter weather.
