University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

Also, remember that UMich has roughly 1,500 +/- clubs, so there’s plenty of other things to do there w/o sports.

Thanks! @sushiritto I’m looking forward to finding out the clubs but I’m more worried about academics. My mom said I’m too tense.

I won’t kid you. It’ll be a BIG transition from HS.

But I’ll give you some advice. I’m not sure what your major will be, but use office hours and UMich’s free tutoring, such as math and science labs, EARLY and OFTEN each semester. Do NOT wait until just before a big test and attempt to figure stuff out. UMich provided this advice in orientation last summer and I fully endorse it.

Even if it’s just one problem.

I will tag team @sushiritto. Michigan stated in the engineering sessions that your grade point will drop a full grade to like a 3.0-3.3 from freshman to senior year. They stated will will get some “C’s”… Gasp! They also said the head of the department, yes the head of the department put up his grades and showed a d and an f and a few C’s… He now runs the department… So I wouldn’t worry so much. They said a B at Michigan is like an A just about anywhere else…

So it is challenging and not easy but you want to be challenged in college. It’s not about the GPA it’s about “learning” (except if you pre - medical then it’s all about the GPA).

You got accepted to some great programs. Must be a reason for that, I would say!

Thank you!!! @sushiritto @Knowsstuff I’m soooo nervous but I’m also super excited! It’s very funny about the department head. Hopefully I’ll figure things out quickly. It’s a very good advice about office hours and tutoring, I’ll make a note. Thank you!

Does anyone know if the deferred students have heard back yet? Or are many denials out yet? I haven’t gotten a response to my deferral yet and I’m wondering if it’s because they’re waiting to send out rejections.

Is it easy to get into any study abroad program in Michigan?

@Micc. Yes. You can pretty much go anywhere you want to. My son is doing a engineering program in France then might fly to Israel to do a engineering internship.

@Knowsstuff Wow, that’s really cool! I tried to look it up on their website but didn’t find much details. Thanks!

Just an example : https://ipe.engin.umich.edu/ipe-summer-programs/

@Knowsstuff Oh thank you!! I didn’t know to look for summer programs!

That’s interesting, @Knowsstuff. I’ve often wondered if engineering students had many opportunities for overseas study–including (1) time in their four-year plans and (2) places / programs they could go to and still do some relevant coursework. I’m a true believer in overseas study, and I hope my son can fit it into his undergrad experience. He’ll probably do CS in COE, if he gets in.

@localtin some acceptances have gone out, I believe (emphasis) the next wave will be on the 29th

@TwoHearted This is Michigan. You can do anything you want to. Just make it work for you. Engineering can even do regular study abroad. You can do study abroad internships also. Many choices.

@Knowsstuff For some reason I missed your post regarding your son. lol! I’ll definitely tell him to call his dad if I see him.

I’m at Campus Day today! I went without my parents so I’m a little nervous but looking forward to it:-)

@kimtaehyung. Don’t be nervous. Use this as practice for next fall. Say hi and introduce yourself to people. Ask where they go to school etc. Get lots of swag) and have fun and be yourself!!

Hi! I was admitted to umich early action but am now seriously considering attending. i was wondering if anyone has received their scholarship yet? I heard that they are given automatic consideration for certain merit engineering scholarships, but i haven’t received a notification for anything. When will they come out?

@xygate487. Email or call Michigan and ask. No one here can answer that for you.

I called the other day about the LSA 4 year renewable scholarships, and the lady I was speaking to told me that they were running a bit behind and would be sending the notifications out most likely in April (by May 1st). She was very nice and told me that only a few had been sent out, but the vast majority haven’t been
