University of Michigan - Deferral Thread

Should I send my fall-semester grades or wait for mid-year?

I was deferred with the following stats:
3.6 UW GPA
5.1 W GPA
SAT: 2150 (CR:730, M:710, W:710)
SAT II: USH 720
AP: Euro 5, USH 5, English Lang+Comp 4, Chem 4, taking 5 APs this year

I don’t get it but whatever, nothing I can do except wait for regular decision.

What is the best thing to do at this point? Will they accept another letter of rec along with the grades?

@bleedblue1

Send grades for sure if they are good. Might want to call and ask about recommendation letters.

I got the same letter as @cadyheron. 2 kids from my CT school got accepted out of 12 EA applicants. All are quite qualified. I believe that my out of state status obviously hurt me. Michigan is my top school though and it bothers me that kids from my school applied with no intention of attending. I was accepted to Boston College Wednesday but I am hoping Michigan accepts me. Hoping for the best in the spring.

My email was the same as @topkekb8’s.

Anyone know if that’s one of the good one’s? Hope so, haha!

Reading this thread, some people who got the ‘good’ letter said they were admitted in less than 6 days after receiving the letter (so a little before Christmas). Will UMich really make a decision on some people this early??

@Brifes Where have you heard this? Could you post a link or something?

Deferred Engineering:

AP: BC Calc, Physics, Chem, Bio, Italian

EC: violin, 2 yr varsity softball, hockey Jv (2 yr captain), karate
Took eng classes in high school

I was deferred last year, super upset but I got in in march and I go to michigan now. Hang in there, more than likely you’ll be accepted you just have to wait it out and be patient. Good luck to all of you and Go Blue!

Oops, yes, meant to post this link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/838123-how-many-people-good-deferral-get-2.html

Check out the posts on the first page of that thread ^

Received the same letter with “Family Ties” too!

@Potus123 and @JCoach,

Can you provide who sign the defer letter?

Below is for another defer email “Theodore L. Spencer, Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director”

Just got my email saying that I was deferred with CoE. Here are my stats:

SAT: 720 CR/580 M/ 600 W (Oops, but this was last Feb, so I’m not to sure if it would be worth retaking in light of my newer scores)
ACT: 33 E/28 M/32 R/34 S/ 8 W
SAT II: 650 Bio E/660 Math II
UW GPA: 3.989
APs: AP Lang (4), AP Lit, AP Chem (these are all that my school offers)
ECs: NHS, Quiz Bowl (captain), Student Council (president of school), Drama Club, Yearbook, Earned Pilots License last summer

Does anybody know if we can send new SAT/ACT scores? Probably will be taking January SAT and February ACT. Or will it be too late by then?

@ThePster I believe that the January test is the last one which they can guarantee that they will receive in time.

Engineering deffered me

3.87 UW GPA

34 ACT

2280 Single-sit SAT.

760 on Math1 and Physics SAT2

I took a 6 credit class on computer networking which screwed me over in how many APs I could take. I even got a pretty serious ceritification in computer networking, but I guess that’s not enough.

~3.2 UW GPA (4.0 after mid sophomore year)

-36ACT
-2380 SAT
-800 in 4 subject tests
-5’s on 7APs (All Junior Year)
-4AP courses and 5University level classes

Standard or above essays, recs, and extracurricular…

Man… I’m really frustrated but happy for all those who got in.

Deferred–white male, Michigan resident
4.0 UW, 34 ACT, 4 AP, 7 Honors classes

UMich wants to see 1st semester grades, but GPA is already 4.0 unweighted!
Baffled!!
