Unfortunately there is no room anywhere close to me to take my sat subject tests (Physics and Math 2) this August and the next date is October which is past the early admissions date. I am applying to the college of engineering so these subject tests are important and I think I need all the help I can get if I want to get in.
My question is should I wait for my scores (risking them not being good enough to send) and apply early admission OR should i just apply early admisson without the scores (the only subject test I have is a Chemistry one)???
Michigan is my top choice and I would really like to early apply there because some schools have said this could increase your chances of getting in. Is this really true? I feel like it might be more important to have the sat subject tests because i did not do super good on my ap physics exam and i am hoping to make up for that with this subject test.
I have not been keeping up with the admissions requirements, but SAT subject tests were not required back in my day, and I do not think it would have made much of a difference if you unnecessarily sent them in. Of course, if the admissions requirements says “recommended”, that implicitly means required in order to have a chance at getting in. However, if the admissions requirements makes no mention of SAT subject tests at all, then I wouldn’t worry about it. Basically, you send them what the application asks for.
I do not believe AP exam scores carry much weight in the admissions process. If anything, it just helps you get credit and place out of some of the CoE core requirements (you need 5’s for calc and physics to receive the credit, at least a 4 for chem), in the event that you actually enroll. More weight is given to how you did in the actual AP course itself.
You lose nothing by applying EA. Michigan does not require Subject tests, nor does it place much weight on them. Furthermore, as long as your application is complete by November 1 (SAT/ACT, school transcripts, recommendations, Common App and Supplement), you can submit your October subject test results a little after the November 1 date and they will likely be considered.
Subject test not required although good score may help slightly. In any case, do apply for EA. It would not hurt at all even if your score is not final. If you have all necessary components of the application submitted by EA deadline, the October test score will be considered even received after Nov 1.
