Hello all,

I wanted some help with the application essay for the University of Michigan.

Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests?

For my understanding, I am supposed to concentrate on the unique qualities of the institution.
Is it suitable if I write about my interests as well?, or is it better to just stick to the prompt.
Any help would be appreciated.

Note that it is about the unique qualities of specific college/school (e.g. LSA, CoE, Nursing, etc), not just the UMich as a whole. You can talk about your interest as well, but it better be related to the unique qualities of the school. Don’t say something that it is not even offered, or it is offered but has nothing to do with you. Remember, this is not an advertisement article promoting that school/college, but rather how does it attract you and what matters to you most that other institutes may not offer.

I’d start by carefully reading the prompt. “How would that curriculum support your interests?”

How can you answer that if you don’t write anything about your interests?

Write about your interests and how the specific programs and opportunities available at the college/school within umich that you’re applying to (engineering, LSA, etc) align with your interests.

For example, if you want to do engineering, talk about an interest/hobby you have or something that’s related to engineering and transition into how the programs/classes at the engineering school in umich will help you reach your personal goals in life or something.

Basically, talk about things umich has that will help you personally that you can’t get anywhere else.
