University of Michigan HAIL Interview

Hey guys! I applied to U of M Engineering early action and got deferred. Recently, I received an email from them asking me to sign up for an interview. I did sign up and I have many questions about the interview process. What should I bring? What should I wear? What should I know to answer the questions the interviewer asks? And, do I have a good shot at getting in since I was offered an interview?

See U of M EA thread, post #181: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18971018/#Comment_18971018

Your clothing should be formal. As for getting an interview, I know that those who were offered an interview in the early round all got in from our school, while those who didn’t were deferred (public in MI). However, I don’t think this applies for the regular round since EA is different.

Formal meaning not ratty jeans and T-shirt, just business casual. HAIL interviews are conducted by Alumni and are often after school, I’d just wear something nice looking. Make sure to prepare a number of questions about Michigan, ,life at Michigan, life after Michigan, or whatever else suits you that are not answered on a web site or blog. Think of it as an opportunity for a conversation with a graduate and you will be fine and show your passion for something. Most interviews neither help nor hinder you, but an excellent interview can help if you are marginal.

When I did mine, I just wore a nice button-up and jeans. It went well, and the interviewer kinda hinted I was already accepted, so good luck!
