University of Michigan, NYU, other very good business schools

Hello, I’m wondering what my chances are at a good business school. Michigan in particular since it’s in-state for me. I’m a junior in High School.

Origin: Lived in Michigan all my life
Ethnicity: White, German, American
My dad attended UofM, Harvard, MIT (not business school related)

~ Stats ~

Scores:
1300 PSAT score (beginning of junior year/this year)

Grades:
3.9GPA Overall (prior to this year)
3.95GPA this semester (hoping to raise it next semester)

Extra Curriculars:
NHS
Key Club
Link Crew
Science Olympiad
Soccer (high school and club)
Ping Pong Club

Outside school activities:
-Classes over the summer (last summer I did a programming/app development camp at UofM)
-Camps (YMCA, etc)
-Photographer (self-employed)
-Entrepreneur (trying start-ups)
-Video editing

This year classes (no other AP’s other than this year so far. Only honors because that’s all my school provides)

  • AP Chem
  • AP Language and Composition (english)
  • AP Government
  • Physics (AP next year)
  • Spanish 4 (AP Spanish next year)
  • Pre-Calculus

** I know I’m not stellar or a stand-out, but what can I improve on? How should I get more involved outside of school?

** SAT tutoring for some time now, much better scores to come! (We take SAT in April)

** Working on GPA

** Looking at summer classes at MIT, Harvard, NYU, or UofM currently

******I know nothing definite, but anything would help.

Ross is very competitive. If you can bring your SAT to 1450+, you should have no problem to get in UMich LSA as in-state applicant.

For Ross, you would want at least a 1450, 700s+ on SAT subject tests, and leadership positions in your ECs. I would not bother taking a summer class at MIT, Harvard, NYU, or UofM unless you are really interested in them or unless you found somewhere that they could help your admission.

To show that you are interested in business, I suggest focusing on getting a real summer job and creating a start-up. Having a legit company, even one that is small, will probably show admissions officers that you are interested in business

If you can do a summer program at somewhere like MIT and get a recommendation letter from a professor there, your chances should improve significantly.

SAT subject test is not required at UMich.
