I’m a indian female sophomore in Michigan. I have a 3.8, (3.7 freshman year, 3.9 sophomore year so far). I do marching band, class band, jazz band, and French club. I’ve taken one AP so far, and I’m planning to take three APs junior year and three senior year. I want to go into business management so I’m taking AP Lang, AP Psych, and AP Micro Econ next year, then in senior year AP Stats, AP Macro Econ and AP French. I want to go to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. What should SAT scores should I be aiming for, should I be taking more extracurriculars, and overall what should I be doing to increase my chances? My GPA is on the lower side so I know I have to amp it up, but since it’s a 3.8, are my chances kind of out of the window? I’m also really sorry if this is a messy post, I’ve never used this website before haha.
Aim for tough courseload, consider business extracurriculars, and get high SAT/ACT score to make up for lower GPA. Check out stats of accepted Ross students for prior years.
A 3.8 is not low for Michigan. But the question is what if you don’t get into Ross? Would you still go. There are tons of business things to do on campus that are not Ross. Many kids go into business without Ross.
OK, we are clear on that. Now… Look up what they expect a good candidate to be. Even call your advisor for Michigan but see if the answers are on the website. Since your local. Visit!! Meet with the department or professors and ask questions.
Do what you love to do in high school. If there is a business track or ec that speaks to that then great
Key is not to do what you" think" the school wants you to do. Start investigating the school on their website. Get to know their “mission” which is on the website…
Michigan is a calculus school. See if you will end up taking that senior year or at least pre Calc.
They will also answer questions about what you are planning to take.
That depends on whether you live in Michigan or not. If you don’t live there, then it would be a bad idea to go there in the first place since the cost would be triple the tuition.
Look at the first sentence of her post…
Aim for a 1500+ SAT out of 1600 to make up for the slightly low GPA. Leadership positions and awards that are state-level and above are good boosts. Solid essays can make a difference. Most importantly, take as rigorous of a course load as you can, and do well.
