Do we know if any decisions have gone out today yet?

screw michigan and letting EA applicants wait until this late in March

They just posted this on their Tumblr:

“We anticipate one more large batch of decisions to be released, but there’s no set date yet. Smaller batches and individual decisions go out pretty frequently. We are planning to post on the tumblr when this last large batch is released to try and alleviate some of the stress. Honestly, we’re very aware the waiting and not knowing bit sucks.”

Who said UC has no problem with their decision release. They are putting many on waitlist as they have a budget issue. Also, they are not doing rolling admission. They did not release the admission notice until last week while people have been complaining here for weeks. In addition, from the news article above it seems they did admit around 5000 just from the EA before Christmas last year. So for sure they have already release much more than half of the admission by now as they plan to notice all applicants by early April. That is in their schedule and they are not behind schedule yet. Finally, it seems they are targeting 13,000 admission according to their website, so that would be 20% less than last year.

I am so stressed guys. I can’t even concentrate myself to study for my exam during this week. Oh God

UMich is looking out for Umich. Period.
If their strategy from this year is for keeps, maybe it will help future applicants if people posted their application history(timeline) and outcome in addition to stats. If we had known what we know now, we would have chosen a different school to apply to in lieu of UMich.

UMich’s new strategy sucks. It went from being my favorite/top choice while I was applying to schools to dropping to the bottom of my list. Not knowing until this late as a deferred ea applicant has brought many other schools to my attention that I will most likely commit to.

I will be surprised if the same is not true for many more applicants. In the end, a college choice does have an emotional component to it - I think UMich kinda ruined that bit for some.
I could justify/accept a rejection in Jan. after an Oct. application submission more easily than a waitlist in Apr.

So if one hasn’t heard yet from UMich, that’s a no…?

I have a senior at Mich and a '19 incoming Freshman. I’ve watched the admission cycles closely for the last five years. This long drawn out process is no different at all than every other year. Applicants get very frustrated every year at this time. Michigan should improve the communications and synch the releases but the simply have not.

@takanuva They did post their schedule on their website and read this article dated before EA deadline.

For those who got deferred from EA, you are reviewed in the RD. The EA part is over. They did not extend your EA reviewing process. So do not expect to get earlier result.

has anyone on here from NorCal heard back yet? I’m in the Bay Area and applied to LSA in December (as did some of my friends) and still no word for any of us, including one who got deferred EA…

@wayneandgarth‌ does not hearing by now mean bad things?

@billcsho
This from that article…

That said, we offer two options to students that might help ease the angst of waiting to hear from admissions…

With all else stated and noted with this admissions game, that line doesn’t belong there, even with the ‘might’. Why not give data on how many (%) they tend to defer from the EA pool. If cc is the place that people go to for some of the info then they need to know what a lot of EA applicants ‘might’ go through (with UMich’s schedule).

Yes, I agree, your message needs to be put out there more prominently - DO NOT EXPECT TO GET EARLIER RESULT.

anyone else think if the university was totally transparent about the admission process especially as they finalize the remaining spots we would be shocked how things are decided?

@takanuva Note that they announced EA admission begore Christmas and they did announcing RD admission in the week of application deadline. Compare to other school’s ED result, they are actually ahead of the game. They have a schedule to finish reviewing in 2 months after RD deadline www hich is on par with other school.

@billcsho‌
I am not disagreeing with dates or data. I just don’t quite see your point of announcing ‘deferred’ to a large number of EA applicants on an ‘early’ date as being ahead of the game.

@takanuva In the news article from December, they said their target was 33% (down from 37.5% from last year) of total admission from EA and leave 67% in RD. It is the pool size of EA applicants leading to a lot of deferral as they rarely reject applicants from EA. If you do get in at EA, you are ahead of the game. Unless you want them to have more rejection from EA like other schools, most students want to have a second chance that they can bring up the scores and GPA before RD decision.

in the umich admissions chat the person asked for my um id to see if I have a decision has been made yet, and apparently they haven’t made a decision yet.

@uofmPlease I knew it. I think all of this “they’ve already released all the acceptances and now everyone else will either be rejected or waitlisted” is a bunch of nonsense. It’s rolling admission for a reason.
