@johnd4413 Stats sound great! Make sure to start the common app ASAP and put in a bunch of work on your essays as well.
@alidaman I am still waiting too. Good luck, hopefully we will both get good news in the next couple days.
Campus Day for InterArts Performance is this Friday, 4/17. Which program are you waiting to hear from?
@Tysp8963 Just checked my spam folder. Got rejected on the 27th of March. Email was marked as spam. Lol
Seriously? My spam will only show last 10 days, so I can’t go back to March 27th. Did you get a link on the Wolverine Access page?
One problem is that people are focusing on whether they are “qualified” for admission. That is a nebulous concept since there are various “domains” against which all candidates are assessed. It’s the same at other highly selective colleges. Just because someone may “qualify” for admission doesn’t mean they will be accepted: Harvard rejected over 1500 valedictorians this year. Michigan considers many other factors. If you aren’t admitted, all it means is that they judged someone else to be more compelling. That’s a subjective judgment and nothing to despair over.
Is there anyone currently on the waitlist or has been admitted for the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at UMich for Vocal Performance??
How many people are still hoping on the waitlist?
I sent my letter of continued interest last week promising to attend if accepted, and I just bumped my ACT from a 31 to a 34, so I’m keeping hope up!
Best of luck @Jamesesesess! Sounds like you made some significant improvements—hopefully they’ll take that into consideration and take you off the list. Let us know how it goes.
@Violet4 aww that’s so sweet! Thank you! No doubt I’d be posting about my heart attack if I get in
@Jamesesesess Still on the waitlist here. Does anyone know how soon after May 1 they will begin acceptances?
It would be likely in June.
@Jamesesesess That’s an amazing increase! If UMich really is utilizing the waitlist more this year, you’ve got a really good chance of getting in
Who do I send a letter of interest to at U of M?
regional officer .
@Jamesesesess - curious where you decided to commit to as you wait to hear from Michigan ? I am going to Indiana University. @bsm1987 - where are you going ?
@BSM1987 I’m hoping we’ll hear in the next few weeks! Waiting all through June would be brutal. I hate that I’ll probably be graduating with still no idea where I’m going.
@rhea23 Thank you so much! I don’t know how much they would factor an increased ACT in the waitlist process, but I suppose it should count for something.
@pmcnyc I just committed to UW-Madison last night. It sucks that I’ve now had to pay $400 worth of deposits that I can’t afford into a school I might not even go to, but I need a fallback option.
@Jamesesesess - UW- Madison is a great school - have you been there? I would think that UW- Madison is more affordable than UMich. I was also accepted to UW- Madison but Indiana Kelley and Chinese Flagship tipped the scale for me . I wish you luck as you clearly want to go there. IF that does not work out you will be in a great school.
@pmcnyc - My S has committed to Purdue (engineering). We only had to pay a $200 deposit, and we’ll save that many times over if we only end up having to pay IS tuition. We really liked Purdue but the increased distance and OOS tuition make it considerably more expensive.
@Jamesesesess - We’re in the same boat as you, graduating without knowing the final destination for certain. Grad party invitations go out this week and I’m not sure whether to put the planned college on or not like we did with my D.
Good luck to both of you! Hopefully we can report some good news this month. We just had dinner in AA tonight and saw all the college grads and families walking around, and we’re really hoping to be a part of it.
@bsm1987 - in state for Michigan is great and clearly worth the @200. All my top choices were OOS but was lucky to get $$ to IU - Michigan will be more expensive but I will not worry about that as I have read chances of being accpted off wait list are very low - are the chances better for in state than OOS do you know?
@pmcnyc I haven’t yet toured Madison, it’s been difficult arranging a tour with my family but I think we’ll be going in a couple weeks. I’ve been to the city itself and it’s awesome. The difficult thing is that Madison would actually cost me ~$2k more ($10k) than UMich OOS ($8k) which I just have a lot of difficulty wrapping my head around, especially since UMich is 2.5x the cost of Madison. Madison’s financial aid isn’t good at all and I’m in state with an EFC of 0.
@BSM1987 I decided not to have a grad party but am still sending invitations to family to attend my graduation ceremony, so my mom and I aren’t quite sure what to put on them either. I suppose leaving the college detail out is just fine; they’ll find out where I’m going eventually.
Thank you guys! Good luck to you pmcnyc and good luck to your son BSM1987! Hopefully it’s true that they’ll be using the waitlist more this year and our long struggle ends up paying off. My ACT was the first bit of good news in a while so I’m not going to give up now.
