Hmmmm, alright… If I had, let’s say, a 2150, is that any better? I know of a lot of friends who got in with a score of 2060…
@collegeplease123 The admissions are really holistic. If the rest of your profile is strong you will get in. I got in Georgia Tech, UMich, UIUC with a 2020 SAT in Aerospace engineering, and i’m an international. So they didn’t throw away my app when they saw my score.
Wow, @meriks, ecstatic for you! At this point, just indifferent about admissions really… Seeing as to taking Michigan this long to make a decision for me isn’t a great thought, you know…
Of course someone would get in with 2060, that is around the 25th percentile.
@collegeplease123 Thanks ! Yeah I understand your frustration, but don’t lose hope. And even if you don’t get in, a school is just a school. No matter where you learn them, maths are the same. What’s important is what you do with your education, not where you did it. Good luck !
I mean, I thought I was a pretty strong candidate, but I guess I wasn’t in Michigan’s eyes…
I hope you don’t mind me asking, but do you know what the 25th percentile is (or about) for the ACT is?
@billcsho
@uofmPlease It is around a 28 for the 25th percentile.
@America2468 You are looking at the enrolled freshmen stat of previous year not the admission stat.
@uofmPlease
For last year, the mid 50 ACT for CoE was 31-34 (median 33) and for UMich overall was 30-33. It was 29-33 the year before that. I am expecting it to be around 30-33 for this year. Mid 50 for SAT was 2040-2260.

Too stressed for this Thursday…just have an ominous feeling about the whole thing. Sure I’m gonna get rejected
Do you guys think they will be releasing another batch this friday?
Looks like a few acceptances went out today.
Questions:
Does our regional counselor have a large influence in our final decision? I know that they do look at the application because the UMich admissions website says:
“A Territory Counselor performs the second review. Each counselor is responsible for applications from a specific geographic region; this allows each counselor to develop a deeper knowledge of schools and school systems in his/her region. This staff member knows the applicant’s high school — in particular, the strength of the curriculum, how grades are earned and distributed, and what students can accomplish there. The counselor makes a recommendation for admissions status based in on this specialized level of knowledge.” (http://admissions.umich.edu/apply/freshmen-applicants/selection-process)
If we have had good contact with them, does it influence their decision in any way? I have been emailing my counselor since early October (not overloading them with emails, of course) and believe that we have had good contact.
Lastly, what information does the counselor “know” about our high schools and how do they get this information? I realize that if I was from a Umich feeder school they would have loads of info, but I am from a small rural high school OOS where I’m positive nobody has applied to UMich for a long time (if ever). I’m also somewhat worried about the communication between my UMich territorial counselor and my high school counselor, as he (HS counselor) isn’t very experienced in dealing with large university admissions. (Most kids at my school will just go to the CC or smaller colleges if they do extend their education.)
Damn I am hoping they are releasing a huge batch this Friday
@ collegeplease123, not to be rude, but 32 ACT is not what Michigan just cares about. I hope a school finds interest in you though because I do believe we are all interesting in various aspects,
@uofmPlease I hope that there isn’t too much emphasis on that because I go to an online school and I’m not sure how that would really work out.
@letsgohelpme1 I know.
@uofmPlease that’s a good question. Don’t worry about it too much. I’m sure they have ways of finding the information they need and UofM is very vocal about wanting all kinds of diversity including kids from rural areas. You may just fill that spot.
I spoke to the regional admissions counselor today. He said that “they are close to finishing”, I assume that meant reviewing applications, and my Son would probably receive a decision near the end of the month. He said they likely will not release any more large Friday batches. When I tried to clarify later in the conversation, I mentioned first week of April and he replied “No, you’re probably looking at late March…probably the 27th”.
During this conversation he had looked up my Son in his computer, so I don’t know if he specifically knew when our decision was to be released, or that the 27th may be a release of the majority of the remaining notices.
I called to try to get a good read on my Sons chances, or if they have reached a decision for us because I want to travel to Ann Arbor to visit the campus before we make our final decision. It’s a 12 hour drive each way so I want to certain it’s not for nothing (I’m not gonna say the R word). We have visited all colleges that he’s applied to except Michigan and Princeton. SO, hopefully in a couple of weeks its a NC to MI to NJ then back to NC trip for us!!
I would be exhausted from all of that driving, but you can’t put a price on a solid education and the future of your kids!
^ That is basically what I think and what I found from last year. Last year they announced a lot of rejection and waitlist on Mar 28.
