Love that phrasing! “single sanction”! Use it, OP!

I got some help on this one from Mrs. Sikorsky.

I should give credit where credit is due. Particularly in this thread.

^ lol. I giggled

It goes without saying that I am very honored and excited to be admitted to the University of Michigan. While I realize my mid-year grades are not required, I nevertheless recognize I have a responsibility to advise you of any changes in my academic performance or in my schedule. Unfortunately, something totally out of character, happened this semester, and I hope that it doesn’t impact my candidacy. Nevertheless I feel compelled to bring to your attention that I did not pass my English class. I take full responsibility for my poor performance, I made major mistakes and am now taking the steps required to successfully graduate and return my academic achievement to the level you saw on my application.

This semester in English class, I submitted work that included non-attributed material and as a consequence the teacher gave me a failing grade. My entire time in high school I have been a hard-working and honest student and this event is a total anomaly which never happened before and I can assure you, will never happen again. During the fall semester, much of my time was spent focusing on my AP classes, taking college entrance exams, writing college essays, and completing applications. What I did not fully appreciate was the impact on my performance in my English composition class. I always left those assignments until all others were completed. My misguided laziness led me to not correctly summarize information or cite my sources ultimately leading to my failing grade. This performance is definitely an embarrassment and not a reflection of my true character and potential.

I immediately enrolled in another writing class for the Spring semester which will be an addition to my already scheduled English class and plan to work closely with my teachers on each assignment. I am working with a new time management and organizational system so that all assignments will be on time and will allow me to better prepare and prioritize my obligations in and outside of school. The lessons I have learned from this experience will help me prevent this from happening again. I have pledged to myself to be a dedicated, diligent student in all my classes in the future.

I would be happy to meet with you to discuss this situation further if that would be helpful in your analysis. In the mean time I will keep you informed of my progress during the Spring semester. I fully expect to be able to show you that your confidence in me is still well placed and that the University of Michigan is the only place I want to be next year. While I believe I am taking all the steps necessary to prove I am still worthy of attending the University of Michigan and to becoming a Wolverine, please let me know if there is anything else I should be doing. Thank you.

Here is the letter im thinking about sending feedback would be nice. Also I meeting with guidance counselor monday to discuss this further. I know they will call him so i need him to be on the same page as me. Thanks for the responses so far esp. Sikorsky. Hope you can respond

Thanks Again

“My misguided laziness”

Don’t think this phrase is necessary.

I think you should specify it was 4 sentances.

I really stress to talk this over with your GC before you proceed. I see you will be doing that.
