I got an email about my admission possibly being revoked due to poor senior year grades. I got a C+ in AP physics,C in calc3 honors and C+ in calc4 honors. I am very worried about this. I have also attended the MSTEM program this summer at UMich (only about 50 kids in program). Do u think I will get rescinded because of poor senior yer grades? Thank you so much

Ouch! Three C’s in 2 semesters and they may revoke? Obviously you need to talk to admissions. But you should first talk to your high school counselor. At our high school, the counselors come in twice a month during the summer for office hours-- call & email your HS counseling office and tell them it’s an emergency! If they say they are “booked,” just go and show up there on their next open day. Contact your HS counselor directly and tell him/her that you need help immediately. Push for help right away if you can get it, not waiting for next “open” day. If you can’t seem to get any help from people at the school, contact members on the Board of Education for your school district (you can usually get an email address or find a home phone number) & ask for their help in getting the school’s attention. From your guidance office, you should collect stats about those classes-- especially stuff like what is the average grade in that class. Hopefully, you are at least average. Was there something going on in your life that affected your grades, which is now behind you, which you can tell Admissions about? Can you get any of those teachers to write a letter that would help? Talk to your HS counseling office pronto and DO be sure to contact UM Admissions (in person would be best) & do everything that they tell you they want you to do. Show them that you are taking this very seriously and will do whatever is needed to avoid revoke! Good luck!

your high school offers multivariable and differential equations?

gooogly, just for kicks, can you post the email? I wanna see like what they’d say in it. Haha.

As for advice, I’d just contact them and try to offer a legitimate excuse.

googly, the generic rule of thumb at umich is 3 c’s or a d or an f for grounds to revoke, and indeed, you have 3 c’s.

You will now need to make a detailed written case explaining your performance in senior year and offer compelling arguments and evidence that you will perform better at UMich or indeed, your admission will be revoked. You will want to respond immediately and seek advice from your guidance counselor. You are in a perilous position.

PS - Jelp, while the stats of those class may assist, they also could hurt the poster. UMich expects its admits to be capable of performing in the top 10% of their student population. I am pretty sure the top 10% in those classes were not Cs.

I would say write a nice letter and explain yourself. That is really all you can do at this point. Be sure to point out that those grades don’t represent how you will perform once enrolled at Michigan. Those are indeed very tough classes for a senior though. You must have been dual-enrolled?

I myself have my own predicament though:

This past May I was accepted as a first year transfer into the CoE… I am currently finishing up my last class at a community college (differential equations) before I leave for the fall. It’s not going so hot… I’ll probably end up getting a C+ or B- if i’m lucky. I was just wondering, do I still have to meet the GPA requirements listed on the CoE website? When i received my acceptance letter it said that my admission is contingent upon these requirements. The Mechanical Engineering min. GPA is a 3.3… does this mean for each individual class or just GPA as a whole? It doesn’t specify. I had A’s in all of my other classes in my freshman year of college.

@ rocxc, I can almost assertively say that you will be fine with that. The CoE is looking at the cumulative GPA in general, not individual courses. I wouldn’t worry, however if you want a definite answer then just give CoE transfer admissions a call - they’re always extremely helpful to me.

Thank you Mag, that is good news. I’ll probably give them a call just to be sure. So pumped for the fall!

honestly those are hard classes and you got C/C+'s in them. they should understand where you are coming from (AND YOU SHOULD HAVE A LEGIT EXCUSE AS WELL).

good luck! see you in the fall.

Write back immediately and explain what happened.
When did you get this?
I’m afraid I might get this.
best of luck!
