I was admitted into the college of engineering at U Mich (industrial engineering). i applied early action, i haven’t received any notice of merit aid (only financial, which is need based) i have a 32 ACT and a 3.9 gpa and i am an asian female. Will I get anything l?
no your stats are quite average for umich engineering and umich only gives merit scholarships to students who are in the top 1%/low-income/urm so sorry don’t expect merit aid from umich. umich is a great value if you are in-state anyway but if you are out of state, it might be difficult to afford.
Will I get anything? Probably not. Sometimes there are departmental and private scholarships that are awarded a little later, but usually to kids with financial need. Hang in there, though, your financial aid letter might be revised a couple of times before it’s nailed down.
I do think it’s crazy competitive. My da just got a scholarship 2 days ago. He has a 36 and 4.3. Good luck!
My son was accepted EA also. 35 ACT, 4.309 GPA, National Merit Scholar, etc. No scholarship as of yet. In fact, we were told that even merit scholarships are often based on what FAFSA considers financial need.
@babyboy17 I think that’s a safe assumption. Most financial aid at Michigan is need-based and it is quite rare to get a large merit award.
you shouldn’t.
It is a bit late to this topic, but I want to clarify the merit scholarships are not need based. For the departmental scholarships for sophomore or above do have a need component but not those for freshmen. They do offer need based aids though. My D received he scholarship notice even before FAFSA submission a few years ago. There are a lot of misleading information by previous poster. Anyway, one should not expect any merit scholarship with scores at or below the 75th percentile. It is only available to selected top few percent of students except for those very small and non renewable ones.
