Hi, I'm a student who is currently in the process of transferring to the University of Michigan School of Art and Design. I am a current freshmen at a different University and I was wondering if there are any individuals, alumni, or current students who can give me some insight to my situation. I graduated with a 3.0 from the the #3 high school in the nation and have a 26 ACT score. All my classes were International Baccalaureate classes. I know the University of Michigan has higher standards, but the school of Art and Design also focuses half of it decision on the portfolio. I have 15 credits and am taking 15 more right now so I would be transferring 30 credits total. Looking only at the University's art school, their high school average scores are 26 ACT and a 3.5 GPA. My current college GPA is 3.4. The admissions team accounts for 50 percent in terms of academics and the other 50 for the portfolio. This may come off as cocky, but I believe I have a way above average portfolio. In comparison to other student's work at Michigan, I have a much better technique and diversity within my art. What I'm concerned about is my academics. Even though they match the art school's requirements, my concern stems from the fact I was recently rejected from Michigan State University due to the fact I did not have an english class and strictly that reason. The MSU admissions board informed me they could only consider my admission after I have sent in my English grade. I'm worried that Michigan might also account for me not having an english and I would lose my admission due to that reason. If there are any other students that are in the art school or just have something useful to say, I would much appreciate your input.
