I currently attend u of m-dearborn and was wondering what my chances are at getting into the ann arbor campus.

Stats:

Fall 2010- 2.86 14 credits at Grand Valley State University
Winter 2011-4.0 14 credits at U of M dearborn
Summer 2011-took calc and econ and got an A in one and a B+ in the other. My overall U of M dearborn GPA is now a 3.88 including those classes.
Im going to apply for LSA for next fall once grades come out this winter.

Can you add more details? What were your standardized test scores and high school gpa? Also what kind of ECs do you do and how many credits do you have total now?

high school gpa was 3.1
high school EC’s: varsity hockey assistant captain and varsity golf
ACT: 23
college total credits: 35
total after this semester: 52

college EC’s: economics club

OK, so assuming you have over 60 possible credits when you apply, your high school GPA isn’t factored in anymore. So you have a 3.46 right now and if we go by your UMD trends, you’ll have about a 3.5 to 3.6 GPA. You will also have about 67 credits. Judging you on that, I would say it’s a maybe. Your ECs are not very strong and I don’t know how well you will write your essay but I don’t know if you will get in with those stats unless you have strong ECs and essays. A 3.5 something GPA is kind of weak for applicants to UM despite what the website says. From what I know, people usually have at least a 3.6 if not a 3.7 as transfers if they are admitted. Your first semester freshman year hurts you a lot because that is a pretty poor GPA and really drags you down. Even if you have two consecutive strong semesters, you may not be strong enough to beat other applicants that didn’t have such a weak semester. You should definitely try for Michigan but you will need to have stronger ECs and strong essays to have a realistic shot at getting in.

I’m also applying as a transfer to Michigan, although I’m going for winter 2012. I have a 3.71 GPA, 3.6 high school GPA, 33 ACT, 31 credits completed and 46 pending. I’m an Econ major that would go into finance if I can get into a business school and my ECs are SIFE, School tour guide, Parliamentary Debate, and Undergraduate Economics Club. The admissions counselor I spoke to told me that I have a shot at getting in this semester, depending on the strength of the applicant pool. She also told me that if I continued getting 3.8+ that I would almost definitely get in for fall 2012. Just letting you know what your competition looks like. Good luck!
