Does the acceptance rate change from fall to winter?

I am sure it does a little bit, but I would think it would still be low because they can only take so many people based on who graduates, if anyone transfers, etc.

For transfer, admissions are based a lot on programs too, so one program can be years easier to get into than another. So over all acceptance rate isn’t the greatest stat for transferring.

I think last year for transfer was around 43%, which is MUCH higher than incoming freshman acceptance rate (24%). So I wouldn’t use the word “only” considering almost a half of the transfer applicants will get in.

Yea I would like it remains around 40 percent all around but I honestly have no clue. I feel like the longer it takes for them to respond the higher the acceptance rate might be due to the fact that some people may just go elsewhere if they don’t hear, or they’re rushing it and over admit. Or it could be much harder due to the same reality. Just hoping we hear back soon.

Me too! Do you think if you’ve applied mulitple times it means anything to admissions counselors?

Maybe, I’m not an admissions counselor. If you have good essays, good grades, and seem like a good fit they’ll take you. Right now only time will tell. I’m just as anxious about this as everybody else lol.

@StormPat I am very lucky that I got all the pre-reqs (even though I am in California). I took a ton of classes at a CC during HS, and I was surprised their credits transfer so well to Michigan (I thought most people in that school would ignore Michigan since the school is very close to Berkeley and the admission difficulty is about the same). I was really scared that I won’t have the pre-reqs completed but I realized I have all done but one (and I am completing the missing one this term).

I just emailed my admissions counselor and got this back:

"Hello,

Thank you for your email. I am currently busy reviewing Early Action applications to ensure students receive their decisions within the timeline promised to them, so my response may be delayed. Please be assured that I will respond to your message as soon as possible.

If you need immediate assistance from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, please contact our Call Center at 734-764-7433. If you have a question regarding your application status, please visit your Enrollment Connect portal. Information about the University of Michigan and our admissions process can be found at admissions.umich.edu.

Thank you for your patience, and Go Blue!"

So I guess they’re looking at incoming freshman who applied as early action before they look at us? Personally, I don’t think that is right but there’s nothing we can do about it at this point.

That makes sense. The quality of their incoming freshmen is much higher compare to their transfers’. They will be afraid to lose competitive freshmen but not us, and they know we will wait no matter what.

There might be a separate team working on transfers. The phone number is above. Why not call and find out?

Even if UMich doesn’t have a separate team of admissions officers for transfers, I’m positive that the people in the admissions office can multi-task and review both transfer apps and freshman EA apps.

There are about 40,000 freshman EA apps and about 4,500 transfer apps, according to the CDS and prior years’ admissions.

Remember, last year transfer applicants started to hear decisions on a rolling basis around this week through about Thanksgiving. Good luck!

Did you apply for the winter term? And did you hear anything back?
