University of Michigan Transfer- Winter 2020

Didn’t hear back today lol

Honestly I feel that now news is good news, you’ll be alright:) btw does anyone have words of advice? because I truly did have my heart set on attending umich in the winter but things didn’t work out. This is the worst mental breakdown I’ve had in while lol

@umich3000, honestly when applying, you have to tell yourself you are probably not going to get it. when i applied for the fall, i thought i for sure was going to get in at transfer tuesday they told me they would be lucky to have me as a transfer, etc. when, i got denied, i was crushed. i have yet to hear back this time around, im telling you third times the charm… well maybe. i completely understand how you feel. aim for the fall. you will be ok. keep your grades up, stay involved where you are now. if you truly want to transfer, keep applying and show them you are michigan material. if you do not mind me asking, what are your stats?

@PerryHorn i didn’t either!

@umich3000 I would honestly let yourself feel the grief instead of trying to get through it quickly. Obviously it’s not healthy to sulk for weeks or months but It’s important you process the news at your own pace and that you do not ignore the reality of your feelings. Give yourself a day or so to relax or rest. Do something that makes you happy or treat yourself. It’s also important to realize just bc UMICH said no, doesn’t mean you don’t have a wonderful journey ahead of you. Your worth is NOT defined by this event at all. Admissions are weird and know that you will do no good by trying to figure out “that reason” that prevented you from getting in. Best advice I’ve been given is that when things don’t go your way, it’s not a setback but a setup for bigger and better things. Take the rejection as a learning experience and as motivation to do amazing things with your future. With time, things will get easier and you will find your place :):slight_smile: good luck to you!

@michigan1010 you are 100% right!!

@goblue1213 @michigan1010 Thank you for reaching out, it made me feel bit better:)
As for my stats:
Hs gpa: 3.3
SAT: low 1000s
Sophomore at an instate school
Fall semester: 3.4
Winter semester: 3.8
Overall: 3.6
Credits: 32(28 transferable) and 17 incoming
Clubs: I did join a health professions club
I hope 3rd time is a charm I hope you get in :slight_smile:

@umich3000 so what i can tell you from my understanding, is they really really want those junior status people. i totally understand how upsetting that can be, but they really take priority to that, and they state that on their website as well as at their transfer tuesday events! definitely try to attend one of those if your interest continues. if you continue to have an upward trend in your grades, and you stay involved on campus now, you should be good! but i was in the same boat last semester, so just hang in there and keep working.

@umich3000 I did not get in either.

Personally, I think it is healthy to take some time and let the reality sink in. (You can try to meditate.) After you feel more grounded, that is when you can start to rationally analyze the reason why you got rejected. Find all the sources you can retain to improve yourself and your profile.

From what I’ve been reading, like @goblue1213 mentioned, they want people who has either a lot of credits (55+) with a good college GPA, or less credits with an excellent college and high school stats. I have the same amount of credits as you do, both your and my high school GPA are the same. So I think we will have a better change once we are in junior standing.

Even in the end if the hard work is still not enough, you will know you have tried your best, and you will realize that more importantly, you have become a better version of yourself. I always believe the process of self-improvement is more important than the result.

Thank you @somuchworktodo for your words of advice, I truly appreciate it and good luck to you:) Even though I dread where I go to school now, I’m going to try my best to make the most of it and I’ll reapply for fall. Overall its just heart breaking and frustrating when you have a vision in mind of how you want life to be like and yeah its not like that. I don’t like how this is all going down during the month your suppose to thankful for everything. Thank you to everyone for your kind words of advice. I hope you all make it far in life:)

at the end of the day everything happens for a reason, and outcomes like this are not all or nothing

Has any tried the financial aid trick before getting in?

Lol when can they release the decision

@PerryHorn i am guessing probably next week

@goblue1213 my current school require financial aid document soon I want to get my decision earlier

Any news? Anyone?

@waiting2020 trust me if more people got their decisions I’m sure the whole thread would’ve blown up again with like 3+ new pages. Unfortunately, we gotta wait

I am planning to apply to umich coe and I think I would have a 3.5 gpa by the time I apply. Would that be good enough given that I got all my pre reqs done and have a 3.5 gpa?

@GGTRIG you should ask @StormPat , he already got it

P.S. anyone with Andrew Campbell here? I am CoE and haven’t heard back. How about other with Campbell?
