University of Michigan Transfer- Winter 2020

@fastestbigguy exactly what my advisor told me. He said if you have the pre-reqs done and they transfer (like I said earlier I learned the transfer part the hard way the first time), and a 3.0 pre-req gpa, you have a very good chance of getting in. CoE admissions is a lot more straight forward than LSA.

@StormPat Itā€™s kind of funny that the same group of admission advisors have different standards

Just to make sure, I am applying to Engineering Physics and my school donā€™t have Differential Equations-Math 216 equivalent, is Linear Algebra-Math 214 suitable for the purpose of admission (Engineering Physics require 216 for the major but the admission website didnā€™t state what is required for it)?

Math 214/Linear Algebra and Math 216/Diff eq are obviously not the same math course. If 216 is a required prereq, then 214 will not do.

@PerryHorn , the EP degree requires a Math Elective at the 300+ level, and there exits a 300 level diff eq class that students with linear algebra experience can take instead of the regular 216 diff eq, that requires no lin alg pre-req, thus, you would be on track and just take the 300+ level diff eq class as your math elective (usually taken during the 6th/7th semester), however, lin alg 214 would not cover the material that lin alg 217 does and since 217 is a pre-req for the 300+ level diff eq class, you would need to get consent from the diff eq prof/catch up on the concepts missed

the math pre-reqs for CoE are just calc 1 (115) and calc 2 (116)

What my advisor told me is a combination of 4 for calc 1,2,3 diffy eq and linear. I donā€™t have calc 1 credit for ap, and already took calc 2. So he told me I had to take both linear and diffy eq. So if you have calc 1-3 and linear I think you should be good. But check with an advisor because program pre-reqs can differ.

@StormPat you are correct, in my second post I was looking at the cross-college pre-reqs for students wishing to switch into eng, this link outlines the pre-reqs for external transfers to eng:

https://www.engin.umich.edu/admissions/undergrad/transfer-students/admissions/

Actually my advisor said I have the pre-req completed lol

Accepted! Got the email at 8:30 this morning.

@StormPat Congrats, hope CoE is actually easier lol

congrats! Could you post your status & info pls?

@PerryHorn thank you! Hope you get in! With a 3.9 and all the pre-reqs Iā€™m almost positive you will.

@StormPat Congrats!! Who is your admissions counselor?!

Anyone have Katherine Mercieca? Looks like we will all know by this week or next. I havenā€™t got anything yet.
Do they consider AP in the total number of credits that someone has? If so I will be way past 60, if not then Iā€™m at like 53. Thatā€™s my only worry is that I get screwed over by not being junior status ā€œtechnically.ā€ my gpa is a 3.9, and Iā€™m applying to LSA

@goblue1213 Mike Oleke

@kevintomph I got a email that said my status has been updated on EC. I have a 3.1 engineering pre-req gpa and ~3.3 overall. Got rejected last spring for not having my math credit transfer from LCC. Went to WCC over the summer and currently in fall to retake calc 2 , 3, and diffy eq plus some humanities.
Ecā€™s: phi theta kappa, indoor football/soccer, retail and restaurant jobs
Essays: pretty strong, took a while to write them.
HS: ~3.2, 1120 SAT (its not looked at for engineering/junior standing)
My advice is to stay in touch with an advisor, as they are there to help you get in, transferring can be confusing and help you through it.

for those of you who have heard back, where on the portal did you see your decision? was it under application status or was there a different link?

@kmalin It was in big letters in a bright box on top of the page, above the categories. You wont miss it.

How many people have heard back ?
