Hello everyone!
Currently, I am deciding between UMichigan, UNC, and University of IL at Urbana Champaign. I plan to major in Finance. I recently found out that I was rejected from Ross School of Business (UMich). At UIUC I was admitted into a selective business honors program. How difficult is it to transfer to Ross at UMich? My backup plan is LSA-Econ… Is it common for LSA Econ majors to end up on Wall Street?
If you want a job in finance, you’re going to have to learn how to compete against the best students. I would go to Michigan, study hard, and get into Ross as a sophomore.
Historically, it is around 40% chance to get in Ross as sophomore. But the rate is likely to go down.
Maybe not billcsho. Ross has enlarged its class size and there now is a minor available to non-Ross students.
Michigan students that have ACT score of 30-36 is 67 percent, UNC is 47 percent.
Foreverindia, of the three universities, Michigan is the only one that is considered a target by IBanks. Of course, that applies mainly to Ross students, and as you already know, getting into Ross is not guaranteed. If you want a serious shot at working in Wall Street, Michigan is your best bet, assuming you get into Ross. That being said, you probably stand as good a chance with an Econ degree from Michigan LSA as you do from UIUC’s Business program or Kenan Flagler, so either way, you are better off going to Michigan and giving Ross a try after Freshman year.
@rikofnovi Yes, the class size is getting slightly larger, however, there are also more interest on Ross these days. The sophomore admission rate was 37.5 in 2012 and 37.1 in 2013. I don’t have the number for 2014 though.
Found the admission number from last year. It was 35.9%. So the trend is still going down while the intended class size remains 500 for years. Pre-admission rate last year also dropped to 11.46% from 17%+.
I have worked on the trading floor of several investment banks in NYC, I know the recruiting very well, UNC is unquestionably a target school. I have no clue where you got the notion otherwise. You obviously haven’t worked in finance. Kenan Flagler MBA’s are all over wall street.
Overall they are both great school, USNW has Michigan at 29 and UNC at 30, though I recall Michigan dropping substantially over the past years. I’d say go with the school that gives you the best chance to get into the buisness school. Best of luck.

You obviously haven’t been reading carefully. We were discussing undegraduate degrees.

We’re talking about undergraduate business schools rayallen. Try to stay onpoint. Furthermore, UNC is a fine school. No one said otherwise.

You weren’t rejected at Ross. You simply didn’t get the pre-admit.
