University of Michigan Waitlist 2024

Go to Michigan. It has a much better CS program than NYU and UCSC and comparable cost to NYU. The advantage of UCSC is its proximity to silicon valley and superior access to internships, but the advantages of the program at Michigan outweighs that. Good luck in your decision making process.

@Knowsstuff if we already sent a loci to our AO a couple of weeks ago, do you reccomend still reaching out to our AO now and asking about the waitlist for us in-state kids?

@UMich4567 where did you get that info?

Applied to COE, OOS

haven’t get off the waitlist. I’m kind of sad seeing so many oos got off already, but congrats to whoever did :’)

Congratulations to all those that got off the waitlist in this last round!!

Hard question. One school or thought would say no, you already did that. The other school of thought would be, screw it, what do so have to lose. But asking a question about instate waitlist wouldn’t be the worse thing you can do.

In my opinion, the GT scholarship is super-awesome!
Everything else would be in favor of UMich.

Tough call! If financial situation is not tight, I would probably pick UMich for Political Science … but again, I dont know much :frowning:

MIchigan is better, in my opinion. But, cost is also very high :frowning:

Would you say that U of M or NYU is better for neuroscience? DS is waiting to hear from Michigan’s waitlist.

In terms of AP credit, the freshman placement tests are important as well in determining getting those AP credits at UMich. In my D’s case, she received a semester and half of AP credit. I thought UMich was generous with her.

As for rents in A2, I don’t know the comparison with East Lansing, but coming from the SF Bay Area, we thought they were very reasonable.

One other thing, I almost begged my D to dorm at North Quad or Stockwell (?) this past year as a sophomore, but like most kids, they want to live “off campus.” Her apartment was 5 mins to Central Campus this past year. Sophomore housing isn’t guaranteed, but last year, it was available to us.

Anyone?

It all depends on where you live. Rents are comparable to Chicago or more expensive. Depending…

When do you think the next waitlist will be released? Is there a chance for OOS students still?

I hope there’s gonna be another wave just before May for oos :((

@Maduka I hope so too. I pray we get off the waitlist too. May God answer our prayers…

NYU is known across the world for their renown pre-med program, which seems like the track you want to follow. (their med school is free too.) That doesn’t take anything away from umich though, as I assume they have a wonderful program too.

@Knowsstuff I was recently waitlisted OOS. I already wrote a continued letter of interest a few days before May started and I was wondering if you think I should follow up with another letter stating that I would go if admitted. I’ve already emailed my regional rep multiple times throughout the year, so I think she definitely knows I would attend, but I’ve seen people from previous years say they’ve emailed their rep multiple times stating they would go. However, I don’t want to come off as obnoxious. What is your opinion on what I should do?

@Knowsstuff I meant to say a few days before April started… not May

@schmendy27. I have been PMd on this a bit. Honestly it’s just hard to say. This year is sooo different in almost every way. I don’t think it hurts to ask if there is there is going to be another acceptance wave before May 1st and if there was you would accept. They get it. But they might not know either shortly before it happens. At this point you have your choice of choice. Be happy with that opportunity. If this happens and you can afford it then that’s just a bonus surprise ?

@schmendy27 Talk with your guidance counselor and have them also reach out. If UofM is your first choice and you would accept, make that known to them and ask them to relay to UofM! Just you reaching out isn’t enough you need another advocate and they are the closest to reach out in your behalf. In my opinion!!
