Does anyone know when the in state wave of waitlist acceptances will be?
I’m an IS waitlisted for LSA. I reached out to my AC about sending in an LOCI right when I was waitlisted and she said not to send as they wouldn’t accept it. My HS counselor also reached out on my behalf and was told not to send anything also. I saw several posts on the board from others that their AC accepted an LOCI while others didn’t. For those who know better than me, why is the message so inconsistent? Thanks.
HI - I have a question for those of you that have gotten off the waitlist. Have you heard from the university? Have you gotten your housing information? S20 accepted his spot and paid his $300 on Friday. I’m not sure if he will get the housing stuff on the same timeline as the regular decision admits.
Thanks for any information!

@Limelight2721 They might just “accept” it, but not consider it while reviewing your application. My AO told me not to, so I didn’t, and it’s best you do the same, so as to not try to annoy them.
@janu2481 Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I didn’t send an LOCI and am following all instructions from my AC.
Hey @NYC2018nyc, did your son get an email notifying him with an update on his admissions portal?
@vroomvroom1_23
Yes, and now it says enrollment verified. He’s just nervous because he sees others have received housing information and he hasn’t gotten any emails since then.
@Limelight2721 - A lot probably depends on who your AO is. My daughter’s AO has been very kind, very gracious, very helpful. She might very well have accepted the LOCI and not done anything with it - so we never know.
Does anyone have an idea when the IS waitlist wave might be?
@jmiin24 probably after May 1st
I could be completely wrong but from what I heard from my CC and what seems to be the common trend around the country, is that schools like Michigan are taking more OOS kids since their tuition is higher so they can make as much money as possible due to the interference of covid-19. It’s just what I heard so I have no clue if it’s true or not.
Anyways, are there any “hints”/speculation on when the next OOS wave will be?
UM’s President announced last week that he expects the university will lose between $400 million and $1 billion this year as a result of the pandemic. So, you are spot as to why UM is probably taking OOS kids (paying full OOS tuition) off of the waiting list.
See the story here: https://record.umich.edu/articles/u-m-imposes-hiring-salary-freezes-in-face-of-expected-shortfall/
@BeefStew2 and @schmendy27 - Makes perfect sense. I am not saying an ISS couldn’t get off the waitlist - but taking an OOS makes much more sense.
Hope theres another wave coming before May
The number of OOS enrollees has actually been decreasing over the past 3-4 years from around 47% to 45%. It’ll be very interesting to see where the Class of 2024, when the 202O-2021 CDS comes out next year.
The instate yield likely increased and the OOS rate likely decreased this year and why we’re seeing more OOS students coming off the waitlist than instate, if there even have been instate admits posted here on CC.
Ultimately, UMich will want to keep the same rough instate, OOS and International %’s; since one of their main objectives is to educate the best and brightest instate students.
So are you guys saying there will be a lot less in-state students accepted off the waitlist this year because they need more money? Because that make sense and if that’s really true then I’m probably not going to get in since I’m in-state
@jmiin24 If more instate students choose to stay closer to home that does make it harder for those instate to come off the waitlist. Get your guidance counselor on board to advocate for you.
The students we knew who came off the waitlist accepted right away and it even seemed like here on CC many appeared likely to accept. This was my second child applying to Michigan and I still firmly believe that they want the lowest yield possible and holding off on OOS could be tactical to see who is really “invested” in them and who isn’t. Having your high school guidance counselor on your side too advocating for you for any school, I believe is extremely helpful, because they are not going to lie to a college if they do not believe you would go there if accepted. So many students say they will attend a school but not all “mean it”. Engage others to speak out on your behalf. Many do get in without any of this, but when it is truly your first choice and you would accept, having someone else reach out who can back your truth up, can’t hurt.
@NYC2018nyc Same for my DS. Accepted off waitlist last Friday, enrolled, deposit paid but no housing information (yet). He has received a few emails from the College of Engineering and something about upcoming admitted student’s days. Hoping the housing comes soon!
Can I send an email to the Admission Officer to appeal my application?
anyone get into ross off waitlist yet?
