University of Michigan Waitlist 2024

Yes! A big surprise for my daughter yesterday. She was accepted off the waitlist for Stamps. She was about to commit to CalArts and put a deposit down and the email arrive right in time! Go Blue!

@MBNAN was she out of state or in state? Thanks and congrats!

Hey Guys - so my Umich admissions officer has just told me that they are monitoring the numbers and they aren’t even sure that they will be going to the in-state waitlist now…? rip us in-state people

@jmiin24 did your umich admissions officer say anything about OOS waitlisted applicants?

No, they just said they may not pull at all from the in-state waitlist but I don’t know about the OOS waitlist.

Do you all think that they are pulling people off the waitlist by school?

Maybe good news for all on the waiting list, but likely primarily OOS:

@sushiritto so you think Michigan will admit more OOS students so they can make up for lost revenue?

It appears more OOS students are coming off the waitlist this year compared to prior years, but this observation is purely anecdotal.

@katebee1 Yeah I think so

I don’t think revenue will be THE major factor, in the sense that UMich will not flip the %’s to admit 60% OOS and International and only 40% instate or something along those lines. I’m sure there are rules, guidelines and/or laws about the educational mission of Michigan students that limits the number of non-residents.

I think UMich will try to maintain the same rough % balance +/-, that I mentioned above (52% instate, 45% OOS, 3% International), of instate, OOS and international students in order to attempt to keep that revenue “stable.”

And if I had to guess, due to the C-virus, less instate students will come off the waitlist, and more OOS and international students will be admitted. And of course, some of all the admitted students may just take a gap year.

But no one knows the numbers, except the school.

I was admitted off the waitlist on Thursday, submitted my Federal Tax Returns yesterday, and just received my financial aid offer on Wolverine Access. I was notified via email!

What are you appealing? That they didn’t pick you yet? That won’t go over well. They are really busy trying to get it done by Friday. More people will come off.

Is there going to be another OOS wave? There were so many people accepted that I kinda feel that was it for OOS…

Honestly there might be another OOS wave because I don’t even know if there are even going to be any in-state waitlist acceptances now…

hey, I’m an international student and I just got off the waitlist for Michigan stamps today!

Given everything that is going on, it is so difficult to make any predictions.

How do you know theres gonna be another wave coming before friday?

Our small area OOS they accepted less than in years past, but more have accepted, higher yield. Sampling of about 10 area HS’s we know both private and public. We at first thought that this would be a smaller class, but it could go the opposite way and be one of their largest, especially if a lot more IS accepted and if they want to keep a balance then maybe they accept more OOS students to offset?! Who knows we won’t know until they announce the numbers on or before the Common Data Set for this year is released.

Hopefully. Michigan is my dream school so i’m praying that I get in. If they don’t let me in I’ll be happy at UT Austin though
