Seems the waitlist offers will not occur today.
makes sense, they have until tonight to respond
Wait, I thought it could come out at 5:30 PM EST
Right, waitlist kids have the SIR deadline of today. So, probably they will release some more acceptances tomorrow/Monday?
My DS is letting go his offer … so, one more seat will open up (Comp Sc)
OOS tuition for Michigan is too high for us, especially since we have UC San Diego as an option
You guys think any in-state acceptances will happen in the next few days?
@jmiin24. There have not been any indications yet.
@jmiin24 honestly we don’t even know if there’s gonna be a wave in the next few days at all :’(
Not sure why you all talked yourselves into thinking something was going to happen today ?. Waves are over. There will be some trickles of people getting in here and there. The President of Michigan on TV CNBC I think, said they offered 5% overage. So till the acceptances today get finalized and the 350 or do overage gets looked at, I don’t see big numbers coming off
Of course, I could be 100 incorrect due to covid. But they have to make up the 25 % decrease from internationals from somewhere and that will be likely more full pay international /OOS with a few instate… Maybe.
I wish you all well and hoping something changes
Yeh i think at this point it’s really overall over for WL. You have to be extremely extremely lucky to get off and there will never be another wave, just single person at best
Huh but there was only one wave that happened and it was before 5/1
All great points here. It’s anyone’s guess as to whether there will be additional offers.
@FallAutumnLeaf please stop spreading misinformation. We don’t know if there will “never” be another wave and its not “over for WL.”. The only other wave was before they have set numbers so most likely there will be another.
agree with #471. there is no reason to presume something like the waitlist having no chance, being hopeful is ok especially with the COVID crisis. if numbers are down 25%, they could not have filled up their freshman class already. remember it’s 4 years worth of tuition + costs they have to make up…
Well only international students’ numbers are down by 25%, and they make up like 3% of the class of 2024, so I don’t think that number will make a huge different.
After rewatching the CNBC interview with Michigan’s president, I realize the president actually said, if I have not mistaken, they purposely let in 5% more students than before to ensure the class size will be like previous years.
That sounds pretty bad for us waitlist people
Please someone tell me I’m wrong so I don’t explode from anxiety
@dep123 I am on Berkeley’s waitlist. That’s exactly what UCB waitlist thread thought but in the end we were totally wrong. Trust me, I hope I am wrong as well, but I feel like this is really it. People are overestimating the impact of COVID.
@Maduka When I think about what the President said in the interview, the first thing that comes to my mind is I think when he’s referring to that 5% I think he is actually referring to the people who were accepted off of the waitlist on 4/23. My reason being if they truly accepted 5% more students, without even going to the waitlist, then what would prompt them to go to the waitlist so quickly, as in before even 5/1? The fact that those people were accepted before 5/1 gives me some hope to believe that the waitlist isn’t done and at least a few of us will be admitted. Also, a good number of those people who were admitted in that last waitlist wave on 4/23 will turn down their offer of admission for various reasons, which should bode well for a lucky few of us here. I really want to get admitted and I’m instate so hopefully they admit a few of us instaters that really want to go as well.
Does anyone know when waitlist decisions for Internernational students will be announced?
This is all purely speculation. I know just as much as the rest of you.
@rafanadal1234 I really hope you are right, Michigan is my #1 choice and if I don’t get in, I have to take another school’s transfer offer :’(
I have been so stressed by this, even more so after hearing about the wave on 4/23. I just hope everything will be over soon
You guys are really neglecting the trickle down effect the increase in number of waitlists from other unis will have…as ivies and even competitors like ucla open their doors wider there will be a bunch of people decommitting from umich opening up new spots
May not be as big of a wave, but certainly some spots will open up. There’s no chance they’re done using the waitlist before even looking at their final commitment numbers
