Since the students commit deadline is 5/8, I would think there should be a movement next week. When the admission decision was made in Feb/March, nobody would think that convid-19 would be that bad. I seriously doubt UM has admitted enough OOS students. A lot has happened since then.
My son just got off from WL of NYU and I hope similar would happen for UM. If that happens, that would be our 3rd deposit. LOL.
I read through the waitlist thread for 2023, and their wave came out on a Saturday, surprisingly. However, It’s in early June.
Can we expect to have something happen tomorrow? When they have their numbers
Our high school college counselor doesn’t think movement is done for any of the big schools’ WL. But it’s too early to tell. Our D is on 3 WL including Michigan. If she hears from any of them, I assume it will be sometime toward the end of next week.
@Maduka we are in this together. i am praying just as much as you are that it’s as early as possible, but with covid, I don’t think anything was expected mich to even take off the wave in April. I’m praying with you though best of luck!
??
My daughter was placed on 5 different WLs. She declined one and accepted the other four. She was accepted from 2 of the WLs before the May 1st deadline but declined those offers. She is waiting on the remaining two schools.
There is definitely more movement this year compared to prior years.
Keep the faith.
good vibes good vibes i feel that
yea I got off the waitlist of UIUC two weeks before May, this year is so different
dear michigan, please accept me.
Dear Michigan, please accept me ?
This article details admissions for this year for Michigan’s biggest public schools. Unfortunately, it’s a premium article and so you need to pay to read it
can you give a brief summary
I read it, this is basically what it said:
- “UM admitted more students for the 2020-21 school year with the expectation that “there may be some instability in the number of students who eventually attend this fall,””
- "The university also dipped into its waiting list to offer admission “in response to declining international matriculations.”
-“Fitzgerald said the university is on track to hit its target of 7,182 first-year students for the fall semester, up from 6,830 last fall. He said domestic resident and nonresident matriculations are up from last year.”
I didn’t pay for it, but found the article on google:
“UM, MSU pad admissions for fall, brace for decline in out-of-state, international students. The University of Michigan has admitted an unusually high number of students in anticipation of volatile fall semester enrollment due to the coronavirus pandemic.”
"Michigan’s largest universities are admitting more students than usual to hit enrollment targets for a fall semester shaping up to be unlike any they have seen.
Michigan State University and the University of Michigan have offered admission to hundreds more students than last year to cushion for the possibility that many will back out amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Both schools say they are aiming to match or exceed enrollment numbers of last year, even as the idea of a packed campus with students arriving from all around the world seems far-fetched in the wake of the deadly COVID-19 outbreak.
Considering travel restrictions and health concerns, the universities face a potential decrease in out-of-state students, who typically pay double the in-state tuition rates. Additionally, the number of international students, who pay even higher tuition, is expected to drop significantly.
New insights on the fall semester come after the May 1 deadline for admitted students to pay a deposit to secure a seat at the schools. The outlook for other universities in the state will be clearer later this spring and early summer, as many have extended their deadlines to June or later.
Tuition and room-and-board fees are key sources of revenue for Michigan’s universities, which have already suffered from a decline in state funding and shrinking pool of high school graduates to recruit. The average annual cost for a Michigan resident to attend UM is $31,000; it is nearly $67,000 for an out-of-state student. At MSU, it costs around $25,000 for …"
These are all that I can find for free
this article makes me feel pretty bad im not gonna lie
Me too, really feel like us out of state people’s chances are really slim now :’(
The article kinda gives me the impression that they already finished building their 2024 class
waiting for a decision is giving me so much anxiety I don’t even know if I can be that calmed and focused for next week’s AP exams
guys we really don’t know anything- just wait and see if the portal updates. One article says this and another article says something completely different. We’re all playing a guessing game now and it’s putting different theories into everybody’s head. We should just wait instead of speculating.
true, but I just can’t help but speculate anything while waiting :’(
