although the numbers don’t make too much sense, i think it’s safe to say that we will not see any movement soon
I’m confused, are people saying that UM does not need to accept kids off their waitlist because they over accepted in the first place, or did they already do a “wave” of acceptance of kids off their waitlist?
honestly both i think
They did, back in 4/23
The deposit deadline for them is 5/8. However, we are not seeing any action after that.
So yea, probably over enrolled so they don’t need more
@winthom - Both
Dear Michigan, please accept me.
Guys, UMICH International students are down 25%. The total enrollment of international students is 8%. That means enrollment is down 2%. UMICH admits 15,000 students. That means they need to admit at least 300 more students. Now I do not how many they admitted on 4/23. But thats the target 300-400 more than they admit. Good luck to all !
They “grant” 15,000 applications but accept around 7,000. They over “granted admission” to around 350 applicants with the hopes of hitting their freshman class numbers.
This is from last year. https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/freshmen-applicants/student-profile
All this means is that they and just about every school will have more domestic students and less international students. Not something they or any school was striving to do. Hopefully it’s just for one year.
No. They accept 15,000 students and 7,000 students accept to enroll.

I’m so confused- so do we think they are admitting more? Does that 300/400 students they still are possibly going to admit count in the 4/23 waitlist wave?
depends on how many they admitted on 4/23.
I expect them to admit another 50-100 students in near future.
Guys - I have told you repeatedly what my daughter’s AO has told her consistently. The AO says they will take students off the waitlist up to mid-June. The last time my daughter spoke with her was just before May 1 - maybe about 04/27 (would have to check with my daughter).
Mind you, I don’t think my daughter will get off the waitlist, because of financial reasons, but this is an AO that has always returned emails and phone calls.
That really just sounds like another generic reply from the school. I doubt they would tell us anything about the admission.
I don’t know it that’s trustworthy
Just conjecture, but I imagine that the next wave will come soon after Umich announces fall plans. If there is remote learning in the cards, it may change the picture for some. Also, as other schools dip intro their waitlists, Umich will get a clearly sense of committed students.
I’ll repost. Watch the interview from May 4th.
I am just curious that if UM has really already filled their spots, why don’t they just send us an e-mail telling us? So I think they still need to move kid off their waitlist
At this point I feel like Michigan is either full already, or they’re waiting for a sign from the universe telling them when is the best time to take us off the waitlist.
I think the first one is more likely
Oh well, someone just got off waitlist from Ross, so UMich is taking some actions. This probably means they actually over-enrolled
i think Ross is on a different schedule
