@LimboKid They grant most deferrals, right? I’m sure many students requested a deferral, so would this result in a lot of WL movement?

Read the deferral carefully. They haven’t added anything for covid excuse. Plus it states it can take time to get an approval. If anyone is thinking about it start talking to a counselor like now. But yeah, might have a clearer picture on spots Aug 1st.

A kid I know just got off the WL for Georgia Tech for CE. May be a good sign. I think they start early August though, so maybe later for UMich He’s taking the spot.

@knowstuff
You’re right. No mention of Covid-19 and deferment for LSA only. 2-4 weeks to review. But don’t you think they must have an expedited system under the circumstances? Anyway, they run pretty late with deadlines. Doubt I’ll get in. ?

@uvawlplz No clue. My gf is heading to UM and she’s considering to defer. She’s scared about the virus flaring up.

My kid may take a gap year now, if there’s no football season:

I’m kidding. Sorta.

have her check again. My son just read an article that said Students and season ticket holders will get tickets on a game by game basis. They also don’t know if they will refund the kids that got their tickets paid and then they will buy them game by game. They are still deciding that. Face it, they can easily get 30,000 in that stadium and spread people out. Well, in theory…LOL

haha looks like it could be that same article…

I have said it before on this site and I will say it again - there is no way sports will be played in the fall. In fact I think students might be back home by end of September. I have an idea where this is all headed but will hold off on saying it. This is the new normal - at least for the next 2 years - hopefully not longer.

In terms of wait lists - I think colleges including UMichigan will be going to them until even mid August.

@daphneheslop I agree with you completely. But be careful with negative or cautious predictions. CC has an army of senior members who censor any ideas or languages predicting something negative.

@Limbokid - Hopefully they don’t. I wouldn’t encourage anyone to take a year off or defer "for a year, because this is long term.

I also think students should be aware of what we are facing - so they are mentally prepared. The environment is not impossible, just requires some adjustments - especially mental.

I also think this environment helps those students who are on a waitlist and/or who want to be upgraded to a better school.

@daphneheslop Totally! I know with scientific certainty being athletic and 18 I will be fine even if COVID gets me. But I won’t ever risk it to potentially harm my teachers or the elderly. I’m staying vigilant obeying rules that make me physically uncomfortable in order to protect those who have protected me all their lives.

Sharing a piece from CDC:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/older-adults.html

Here’s a “senior member” of CC coming to censor your thoughts, ideas or “languages”. ?

  1. Athletic and 18 and you have scientific certainty that you’ll be OK with Covid. That’s laughable, if not delusional. Risk increases with age, but youth doesn’t guarantee you’ll be OK either. I remember a news story on how some young people were getting strokes due to Covid. Unless you consider a stroke minor.

B. Predictions about the football season may come true, and that the world in which we live in now may last another two years or longer, but this thread isn’t about Covid and football. It’s about students on the waitlist and actually wanting to attend UMich.

@sushiritto - I think we worked the waitlist and UMichigan in. Out of bad things - come good. This might cause some colleges, especially elite ones - to rethink their admissions process and admit more students and be able to cater to more students using a hybrid model. Some time on campus - some time at home online - for some students. I am hopeful a lot of positive will come from all of this.

Guys they are gonna let everyone know tomorrow for the waitlist, talked to a Counsler today

Given the recent reversal of the international student policy (the reason they kept us on the waitlist), I highly doubt anyone is going to get off anymore.

@sushiritto OMG… I can’t feel my left arm… oh… my left leg… oh… my left ear… Wait, just had a nightmare. Need to stop benching over 200 every night.

@khan98 i really hope what u are saying is true

but idk if they would actually tell you a date :’(
