Michigan has been my top choice basically since I was born. I’m really hoping for good news after being strung along since September…

I really hope last year won’t be the only big year for waitlisted students. Guaranteed sophomore transfer would we fine as well. I just don’t know if I could handle a straight up rejection I’m really depressed right now.

Does anyone know how much time you have to accept offer, if you come off the wait list? Do you have to answer immediately? U of Mich is first choice - but son and I haven’t visited (from CA) bc expensive and would only visit if receive an offer. He would need time to at least see what the campus looks like, just to be 100% sure. I know very unlikely to receive an offer, but, honestly, he expected denial after being deferred, so being waitlisted is a surprise to both of us.

@Santander same here - After Berkley rejection he was hoping for Michigan, we are from CA and we are debating if we should visit Michigan.

Waitlisted
OOS - From CA
4.2 W GPA
34 ACT

@phemrajani Some internet research I did indicates that many universities demand a response in 72 hours. I am tempted to call the Admissions Office, but will probably wait until next week. I am sure they are overwhelmed today with calls. I hate to spend time, money, hope to go see a university where my son is waitlisted bc the odds of an offer are very low. His stats are lower than most of the stats posted here. Regardless, I would expect that if a student is made an offer after being waitlisted s/he will not have much time to respond.

You have 2 weeks to respond

GoBlue17200–great news! Thanks so much!

They don’t seem to be consistent with their waitlist yields. Good luck!!

are any of you submitting recent high school grades or anything?

Same as @demosthenes17 , got into Princeton but waitlisted at umich. Was definitely not expecting it.

Just got my email. No guaranteed transfer. Great.

Thanks to those who posted the Common Data Set from the last two years. Extremely interesting. It shows that Michigan offered 11,000 applicants a place on the waiting list each year. That is stunning, given that it is more than the entire freshman class. About 4000 accepted that place on the waiting list, suggesting that most of those offered a place got in somewhere else that they wanted to go more (because of preference, financial aid, or whatever) or simply didn’t want to continue the process.

@umichacceptme same here

waitlisted OOS for LSA
1400 SAT, 31 ACT
4.0 UW GPA, 4.25 W
Sad that I was deferred to just be waitlisted

Waitlisted OOS for LSA
White female, not legacy
3.93 UW GPA and 4.60 W GPA
33 ACT
Decent amount of extracurriculars including president of one club and NHS, with over 300 service hours
Michigan was really my last shot, I literally was rejected from everywhere I applied to besides UIUC which I’m instate for. It’s been really rough and I accepted the waitlist offer but I don’t even know if it’s worth it

Go Blue in the Final Four!

For UMich you don’t send any additional information, everyone that is waitlisted is thrown into a massive pile and the admitted students will be randomly selected. UMich isn’t really interested in high stats, they just want interesting people. One of my friends got into LSA with a 27 ACT, 1350 SAT, 3.85 uw, barely any extracurriculas and no volunteer hours. It really breaks your heart when you work so hard to get into your dream school and get cut short :frowning: honestly, I don’t even think it’s worth it anymore
