University of Michigan Waitlist Applicants 2022

@moonestone13…time to start to embracing UIUC… It’s a great school!

@victor1990 Out of those 5000, some were accepted for the next year as well (my case!) as well. They call it a sophomore acceptance, you have to wait one year but they are willing to accept you for your sophomore year.

@AKK@uofm do you know how many people were given the sophomore acceptance out of the 5000? any certain approximations?

Bait-N-Switch! Did you get post cards about how interested U of M was in you?Did you get invitations and interviews? Where you told that you are exactly the kind of student U of M is looking for? And even get invited to campus to work on your essay? And then get waitlisted - with at 3.95, graduating summa cum laude, 300 volunteer hours, proper ACT/SAT, etc? Only to get denied and told to go to U of M Deerfield or Flint? Bait-N-Switch! That is how U of M is filling their other campuses. They are over recruiting and over promising only to bait-n-switch!

@IreneLeee I have no idea actually, don’t want to give out wrong numbers either. But I only knew a few of my friends from had actually received this (maybe 3 out of 40 ish)

Waitlisted OOS, full paying
4.2 W GPA
35 ACT, 1500 SAT (cri)

are you sure that they select randomly from the pile of waitlisters to choose admittance???

@YoungMo No.

“Once we get a clear picture of how many admitted students fail to meet the enrollment deposit deadline, we’ll know how many waitlist students to whom we can offer admission. If we do have space, deciding who to admit is based on multiple, comprehensive reviews of each application, focusing on the quality of academic preparation in high school, grades, scores on the ACT with writing and/or SAT with Essay, personal characteristics and attributes, responses to the short answer and essay questions, and recommendations from high school teachers.”

Is anybody going to send a LOCI? If so, where do we send it too?

If you will attend if offered and you have no need other than the available federal loans you could tell them that. Otherwise focus on the unis where you have been accepted. By accepting the waitlist offer you are already signaling continued desire.

If I applied for Ross EA, got deferred and then waitlisted for LSA, am I still considered waitlist for Ross? Or did they deny me? That is the only reason why I would pay oos for umich.

@Panda_juice…right with you. I called the Admissions office and was told that Ross won’t even look at an application until the candidate is accepted into LSA (in our cases). I was told that if offered a place from the wait list into LSA that Ross would then also consider things, but it seems like too much planetary alignment would be required at that point. I have no interest in LSA and was only looking at U of M for Ross, so while I accepted the spot on the wait list, I’m certainly on to other options (and have paid my enrollment deposit elsewhere). It doesn’t seem like I’m in much of a position for merit-based aid at this point, either, so even if the planets did align I’m not very optimistic about U of M being a competitive option for me financially.

If I am writing a LOCI, who should I address when I say “Dear [Name]” or should I simply state “Dear University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions”?

They said not to send any additional information so is it a good idea to send a LOCI?

D got waitlisted

OOS for LSA - Molecular Biology
1570 SAT, 35 ACT
4.0 UW GPA, 4.5 W

Tons of EC - President NHS, Placed 2nd in BIO at regioal level. Interned her class for a year in BIO… 100+ service hours… etc etc…

Really ? some of the students she tutored got in :-)) hahaha…what a roast. The selection process is broken and UoM is going down if they do not fix it,… we are going to reject the waitlis as we cannot wait for that to happen…perhaps for the class of 2030t!!!

@WhatDoINeedToDo Thanks for your response… that does seem light years ahead, knowing that you got in/rejected LSA in middle of june and then waiting longer to possibly July for Ross if you do get in… Are you going to go overboard with appealing or just clicking yes to waitlist? Idk if UMich is worth my time anymore.

@Yerishi Could you post the link to that? I thought students from previous years posted that they sent LOCIs?

This is what they said when I asked if I can send any additional information
“ Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Michigan. We understand your disappointment in learning that you were waitlisted at U of M. Admission this year was extremely competitive, as we received more than 66,000 freshman applications.

We invited you to be on our waitlist because we strongly believe you have the capability to be a successful student at the University of Michigan if space were available. Once we get a clear picture of how many admitted students pay their enrollment deposits by the May 1st deadline, we will know if we are able to extend admission to any of our waitlisted applicants. Please note that you must officially accept our waitlist offer in order to be placed on the waitlist. Other than accepting that offer, we are not accepting additional materials from students at this time.

Since we do not typically admit students from the waitlist until late May, we also strongly encourage you to move forward with enrollment plans at another college or University at this time.”

So I do not know whether it is fine to send a LOCI or not. I am afraid that they will be annoyed or something

@Yerishi They probably won’t be annoyed considering there will be many more just like you. It doesn’t hurt but it might be too late to send one,
