Hi, I applied to the U of M Twin Cities on November 1st, which was the deadline for priority applications, and I still havent heard back from them. I know They have until Jan. 31st to send admissions, but lots of people I know have gotten their decisions already. A number of people I know, with lower GPAs and ACT scores than mine who submitted their application with me have gotten their acceptance letters. But those people got into the LA school, and I applied for the Biology school.
My stats are a bit lower than the average stats of the Biology school. Is that why I haven’t heard back yet.
African American
GPA: 3.805
ACT: 27 (average for biology is 29)
Ap Classes taken: 4, but I’m taking an additional 5 my senior year. Total of 9.
@Edesal, is the GPA weighted or unweighted and if the former do you know your UW GPA?
Your hook as an AA is significant for UMN and will definitely help you.
I found out that I was accepted December 1st. I am from Oregon if that helps.
I had a 28 ACT and 3.91 GPA.
@sfgate321 what college at UMN?
i applied November 1st and found out I got in December 21st. I got into CBS
GPA: 3.9
ACT: 27
@JBStillFlying CLA
@tcmnlover Where are you from?
My GPA is weighted, my school doesn’t tell us our unweighted GPA, but its in the 3.5/3.6 range.
It does help. I thought I had a decent chance of getting into CBS, but now I’m worried I won’t even get into CLA. I sent them my SAT scores two days ago, which is about the same if you do the conversion to with my ACTs but for some reason the average SATs are much lower and my SAT is well above the CLA range, and within the CBS range.
Is your GPA weighted?
Im from Minnesota.
@EDesal, if your unweighted is 3.5 or 3.6 you should get into CLA, barring unusual things like your grades tanking junior year or something like that. You might even get into CBS, although that is a reach. Nevertheless, people get into reaches all the time.
You might want to double-check your unweighted just to make sure you are estimating accurately. Very easy to do: just use the 4.0 scale: A=4, A-=3.67, B+=3.33, B=3.0, etc. Weight each class by the number of credits (usually 1.0) and then divide by total number of credits.
Good luck and keep us informed!
yea, my Unweighted GPA came out to be 3.55. My junior year grades were actually my best. I had a 3.56 uw and 3.94 w, but my freshman year grades weren’t too great, which is why my GPA is low. Lets hope I hear back soon.
Your grades are heading in the right direction, which is great news.
Don’t worry! I’m in the same boat as you. A lot of people have gotten acceptance letters back from the U of MN, but everyone I know that applied to the CLA at the U has still not heard back so you’re not the only one! Good luck to you!
