University of Minnesota - Twin Cities vs Virginia Tech.

Which is better for an undergraduate in computer science as an international student, the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities or Virginia Tech?
I’ve got accepted to both universities. I am really interested in academics. Which university has better academics in computer science (and also engineering). Any additional information would be appreciated.

Virginia Tech for sure! It’s program in engineer is one of the top one in the country. Did you apply early decision? I’m also international but apparently I have to wait until April 1 bc that’s when decisions will be posted. I applied to Tech as undergrad by the way.

UMN is ranked higher in CS and VT is ranked higher in engineering. The choice would come down to where you want to eventually live. UMN has a better name in the midwest and VT has a better name on the east coast.

I think that Minneapolis would have better airline connections. Does that factor into your decision making?

2 totally different atmospheres. Twin Cities is an urban campus, well regarded. VT is in a small college town, not particularly close to a big city. Town and campus get along well, it’s not an adversarial relationship at all. Students love the school. But much different feel between the 2…

Not really. Number one priority is great academics.

^that’s not how things work in the USA. There is no absolute scale of academics by schools. Those two schools belong to the same range. However, other factors might make your experience a bit different and help you in other ways.
