I have already done a year of college and I'm transferring into one of these colleges. My major is ME. Can someone please provide some feedback on each of these colleges and guide me towards which would be a better option.

Thank you!

Where are you coming from and what’s the reason for transfer? Are you instate for any of them?

Is cost a factor? If you are OOS for them, you will be paying the OOS tuition. They all have good engineering departments.

UT has a strong engineering school, plenty of funding and resources. It attracts a lot of recruiters. The weather is great, very different from Minnesota or WV. Okay, it is pretty hot in the summer.

Austin is a great town for young people. There is lots of art, live music, food both expensive and cheap eats, recreational sports activities.

" very different from Minnesota or WV"
Uh, Virginia Tech is not in West Virginia!
Blacksburg, Virginia has its own charms. Virginia Tech also gets lots of recruiters and has a very large Engineering Expo (career fair). These are all good schools. Look at finances and fit.

I’d look at cost first, then fit.
UM Twin Cities is urban, Vtech is in a small college town, and UT is in a large college “city”.
Vtech is probably the most demanding academically for engineering, UT the most demanding overall, and UMN the least.
if you like 4 seasons, dry cold, and snow, UMN is best.
if you like humid heat but pleasant winters, UT is best (with VTech less unbearable than Texas)

VT also has 4 seasons. It is in western Virginia near the mountains so gets snow.

Where do you want to work? Many engineering firms tend to hire regionally. The large ones are likely to recruit at any of those you’ve mentioned (and others).

VT is extremely popular around here and a terrific program, so they’d get my vote, but if you prefer working closer to either of the others, I’d go with them.

It seems the OP currently attends U Houston with and is in his first semester of college.

That should make UT least expensive (assuming the OP is an IS student), but probably also the most difficult to get into.

I must disagree on the humidity. I live in TX but spent part of this summer in MN. The humidity in MN was awful! And they have mosquitos too. I guess we sort of have them here, but they are not common. In MN, many people call it the land of 10 whatever mosquitos. We never wear bug spray where I live in TX, but wear it ever day in MN. However, in TX, we wear sunblock constantly, even while driving. Not this time of year though. I have not worn sunblock in the last two months about.

I think I heard Houston is humid, but I do not live in Houston.

All the schools listed are great schools. If you actually like Texas and are from here and can get in to UT Austin, then you might as well go there. It is not like the other two schools are better. They are all equal enough in your field that people on this board cannot agree on which is better. Fact is, Virginia Tech is going to get a lot of recruiters from the VA area, UT Austin from the Texas area, and UM from Minnesota. Where do you want to spend the rest of your life? And why spend the next 3-4 years in a place you would never want to live long term?

Thank you for all your replies.
Yes I am currently attending UH and an IS student. Cost isn’t really a factor. I’m just looking for the best college experience alongside a good education. Although I do think UT would be the best option I also think I won’t get in. I contacted VT and UM Twin Cities and both responded saying I have a high chance of getting in. And as for my future, I haven’t visited Twin Cities but I have visited Virginia and live in Texas and, I find, both are very appealing, Virginia specially because of the seasons.
So all three are almost equally ranked in engineering? And all of them would give me the good chances at jobs in their respective states?

Also, please recommend other colleges in the same league.

Penn St and Va Tech are the two most commonly mentioned/respected/hired from around here. (We’re in southern PA.)

There are others, of course. Any region you particularly like?

A lot of Virginia Tech kids end up in the DC area .

Unfortunately Penn St does not accept first year transfers.

Mostly South/North east. I was also looking at University of Wisconsin- Madison.
