University of Minnesota

Hello my name is Adriano, I'm from Porto Alegre, Brazil.

I've been researching on the University of Minnesota, and saw that it is a reputable college with good academic rankings and approved by international students. I have already sent my application there.

So, I wonder if anyone studying or have studied there, can give me some information about the university, like academics, campus life, activities, teachers, housing and meals, and other things you want to talk about there that you find interesting.

Thanks!

I applied there as well and from what I’ve read about the teachers there’s a lot of good ones although some of them may not speak English well/ have thick accents . Try looking at student reviews of the school because I was accepted there and I haven’t found anyone to tell me about the school personally.

Dillgram90: have you applied to the Honors College? if not, look it up and see if you could qualify (if you could qualify, do apply).
If not, check out Living Learning Communities: students who take a freshman seminar together also live in the same corridor. It helps in making friends and in studying together.
Indeed, the UMN is HUGE so anything that helps you find your place is something to investigate.
The Twin Cities are a great city (great cities). There are eveb lakes! I personally love the Grand Avenue Neighborhood in St Paul.
It’s very cold  but I’m sure you already know that. You’ll buy your winter clothes there, they have special boots and coats that you wouldn’t find even in the Southern States in the US.
Post this on the “UMN” forum on this website, I’m sure you’ll get lots of answers. :)

I live in Minnesota and have been accepted to the University. I agree with everything MYOS1634 said, about the climate. You have to be prepared for a large range of temperatures. In the winter one day it will be sunny, blizzard the next day. Aside from that factor, the University of Minnesota is a very reputable college and very competitive in the midwest.
